How do you revise for the History exam
On the French revolution A2 12/06/12?

The dreaded exam is coming up.
Just want to know how you all revise. I am currently attempting to take notes on the whole book. I feel like if I try to do it in sections ,for example doing the terror the Napoleon, I'm missing bits out. I really need some tips. How do you do it?

Re: How do you revise for the History exam
Hi Well, I haven't covered A2 material yet, and nor have I covered the French Revolution, but based on AS experience I'll help the best I can! History is my hardest A Level, but I found that with lots of memorisation and past papers I can (or at least I hope I did!) do much better than I expected.

Notes are good. Take notes as you go. I only memorise my notes if I write them out a number of times, but everyone's different. However, the best bit of advice I can give is: past papers. Do them all. Better still, look up the mark scheme and examiner's reports (if you do AQA they have them, but I'm not sure for other exam boards ) and learn from them as you go. The more you do, the better you'll get. I'm pretty good on writing essays, but History is something else altogether Hope you do well, anyway! Sorry for my shoddy advice

I'm a visual learner so the only way i can revise for history is by using my time machine.
It allows me to remember all the dates and all the minor and major details.

Memorize a text book. Do a lot of exam papers. That's it!

Re: How do you revise for the History exam
Im an AS student but our teacher told us to get key facts so for Stalin for example I learnt the fact that the defence production increased by 300%. I then write that fact into my notes and then when I write essays I'll base the entire paragraph on that for example:

Some historians have argued that the five year plans were successful as defence production increased by 300% during second year plan. This allowed the USSR to outproduce the Germans during the war and because of this one may argue that the five year plans enabled the USSR to build a strong industrial base. For example every industrial complex had a workshop devoted to defence and this enabled the USSR to gain new weaponry such as tanks and aircrafts which were on par or surpassed other countries weaponry such as Britain. Therefore some historians have argued that the five year plans strengthened the USSR as their industrial base improved drastically and because of this their weaponry and defence saw significant improvement enabling them to win the war.

As you can see I just based the entire paragraph around two facts I learnt about the five year plans and thus I was able to build up my argument. So for history just revise a couple of facts about each topic and you should be fine.
