Re: you can't use the KFC drive thru if you're a pedestrian
It's undoubtedly a policy enacted to mitigate the company's liability with respect to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, which states that a company must do everything that is reasonably practicable to prevent injury or loss. The regs (I can't remember off the top of my head which set of them apply in this case, but the PUWER regs have clauses to this effect) state that the company must, where possible, segregate motorised vehicles and pedestrians. It is reasonably practicable to enact a policy that prevents pedestrians using the drive-thru by not serving them, thus they must have such a policy. It is not a defence to say that it is impacting trade by implementing such a policy, as in the event of an accident, the HSE would prosecute on the grounds that the company put its profits before the safety of its customers; a charge which I can tell you goes down like the Hindenburg in front of a court.
It's irritating and "Health and Safety gone mad", but unfortunately the business is doing the right thing here by not serving pedestrians there - they'd void their insurance and be liable for an unlimited fine if something happened, and the manager could go to prison.Last edited by Mad Vlad; 01-06-2012 at 19:27. -
Re: you can't use the KFC drive thru if you're a pedestrianHah. He/She must have looked like a right sword walking up to a drive thru window. Did they make all the noises? 'Ta for the chicken and chips VROOOM VROOOM'(Original post by Clare~Bear)
Ok, yes drive-thrus are designed for cars. BUT a KFC restaurant is being renovated in my town. The toilets, seating and counters etc inside are all being replaced. But the kitchen and thus the drive-thru is still operational.
Someone I know wanted a meal from this fast-food place (there weren't any others nearby open at the time they went.) But they don't drive. They say it wasn't busy so there weren't other cars about.
They ordered what they wanted through the microphone thingy. But when they got to the serving window, they weren't served because 'they weren't in a car, and this is a drive-thru.' !!!
It is rather ammusing. But the food was already prepared and packaged for them! So they wasted food and lost money - although it wouldn't make mcuh difference to such a big company.
Would you expected to be served if you were my friend? Would you serve the person if you were the KFC employer?
Is there an official rule against it? Normally my friend would go into the restaurant to order, but he couldn't!
EDIT: Just read through the rest of the thread and have seen that a load of people are doing this... what a bunch of weapons. You guys must be chicken daft. If its closed - go home or find somewhere else.Last edited by Jake22; 03-06-2012 at 22:57.
