GCSE OCR History - Paper 2 -Exam Technique
Hello,
I'm doing GCSE OCR History Paper 2 on the 15th June this year and I was wondering how we're meant to structure our answers? Becuase I'm trying to do a past paper at the moment and I just don't know how much to write - and I'm predicted an A!
For example for the first question, which is normally "What is the message of this cartoon....." how are we meant to structure our answer and more importantly how much are we supposed to write?
I'd be grateful if anyone could let me know,
Thanks

Re: GCSE OCR History - Paper 2 -Exam Technique
I too am taking this exam this year - good luck.
For the first question - 'what is the message of the cartoon?' we have been taught to...
1. Answer the question directly 'The message of the cartoon is...'
2. Say what you see 'In the source, the man/woman/crazy german is...'
3. Add your own knowledge/say what was happening at the time 'At the time, the reichstag fire had just took place, and Hitler was rounding up and arresting communist opposition.'
Hope I was of help

Re: GCSE OCR History - Paper 2 -Exam Technique
We've done some practice questions in class and it's so surprising how little you have to write for this exam!
You don't have to write nearly as much in comparison to the Germany exam!! I think you spend around 10 minutes each on the first few questions, then around 20 for the 'All Sources' question, so yeah 1 paragraph for the 'message' question is fine as long as you make all your points

For the twelve marker my teacher taught us a technique where you do a yes or no table for the question and write which sources either do or don't support the question. Then using the table as a plan you would structure the question like this
Intro some general comment on question
Source a provides evidence that (women were provided enough job opportunities)...elaborate...sim arlary source e (which could be a picture) illustrates that what source a says is true...the you could talk more about e and add some facts relating to your point (in 1939 80% of married women were working with nurseries and child care provided..i think that right anyway)
Then you would contradict and talk about another source (talk about all the sources using paragraphs to structure)
Then conclude
Erm sorry if this is a bit confusing
but hope that helps for the last question..it helped me especially because it can be hard to get the high marks

Re: GCSE History OCR Paper 2 - 15th June 2012My teacher says the Liberal Reforms- it's probably the easiest anyway(Original post by HHJ)
Hi
Which of the three topics do you think is gonna come up:
- Liberal reforms
- Women's Suffrage
- The Home Front
Thanks
And I got an a* for the coursework

Re: GCSE History OCR Paper 2 - 15th June 2012
It's quite hard to judge which topic it will be, because OCR decided to trick some candidates recently by repeating topic (e.g. Suffrage in January 2012) even though the Liberal Reforms hadn't come up for the past 3 papers.
The record goes like this:
Jan 2010 - Home Front
Jun 2010 - Liberal Welfare Reforms
Jan 2011 - Women's Suffrage
Jun 2011 - Home Front
Jan 2012 - Women's Suffrage
Looking at that, it is likely that it is going to be the Liberal Welfare Reforms - but keep in mind that there's a strong possibility of the Home Front also, seeing as OCR decided to chuck in Women for the January just gone.
I found this in an examiner's report which is helpful (June 2011 - Home Front): "Very few candidates seemed unable to access the majority of sources, although there was clear evidence in the case of some candidates that they had been preparing for questions on the Liberal welfare reforms. It cannot be stressed strongly enough that a policy of guessing the topic and slanting preparation heavily in favour of that topic is very unwise."

but hope that helps for the last question..it helped me especially because it can be hard to get the high marks
