Re: Does anybody actually genuinely care about the Jubilee?
Yes I care a great deal. Couldn't care less about doing it "for the Queen" - but I am absolutely sick to death of how miserable this country is. (It completely astonishes me that people going from affluent to well-off or well-off to comfortable can be more miserable because of that than people who have almost nothing...).
Same with the Olympic Torch relay. I find it incredibly "uplifting" (for want of a better word) to turn on the news and see tens of thousands of people out on the streets celebrating. Were it not for these two events, the only other time you ever see people like that in the UK is when they are striking/protesting about something.Last edited by callum9999; 31-05-2012 at 22:48. -

I'm pretty apathetic towards the monarchy. I don't believe in divine right to rule or inherited privilege, but at the same time, I think by and large the royal family has been a good thing for Britain over the decades.
However I am baffled by this assumption, largely propagated by the media, that we are supposed to be passionately enthusiastic about 'celebrating' the Queen's Jubilee. Frankly, I've got more important things to worry about than, what is essentially the anniversary of the day a elderly lady put a very expensive hat on.
Just me or do others feel the same?

Re: Does anybody actually genuinely care about the Jubilee?
I think a lot of people do care about it. TSR obviously only represents a very small section, and particularly type, of the population. I'm sure elderly people are much more into the Jubilee, for instance.
Personally, though, I couldn't care less. -

I like the British-ness of it all, its just sad it takes such a generally meaningless event to get people to come together like that. Would far prefer it to happen on more occasions, to celebrate more than 1 person perhaps some of the others that have made or defended our nation.

Re: Does anybody actually genuinely care about the Jubilee?Absolute rubbish. While none of her work is remotely back breaking, she does a hell of a lot. I don't know about more recent years, but in 2007/2008 she took part in 440 official engagements. With the Jubilee tour this year I'd be surprised if it doesn't at least equal that amount.(Original post by Saleha)
Lol i personally think its stupid.. i can't remember the last time the queen done anything useful :s she just sits on her money all day long
I might be wrong, but she doesn't actually do anything so she's not really needed..
You may not personally deem any of her work important, but you simply cannot say she doesn't do a decent amount of it. Especially at her age, how many other 86 year olds are remotely as active as that? -
I think that if I didn't have so many exams then I would slightly care... I haven't really been brought up to be a fan of the queen. I've had an idea at the back of my mind that quite a lot of people liked events like this for the bank holidays and tourism (money)
I dunno why...

Re: Does anybody actually genuinely care about the Jubilee?
It's my Mum's Birthday this weekend, she didn't even know it was the Diamond Jubilee
. Shows how much my family care for the Diamond Jubilee. I understand that older people may be intrigued by it. I find it more funnier when everyone's getting proper excited about the torch relay for the Olympics (that's all I see on the news). I bet you wouldn't see as many gullible people at these concerts if you told them that the torch relay was introduced during the 1936 Olympic games (a.k.a. The 'Nazi' Olympics).
Off topic, everyone's getting a buzz about the 4 day weekend! (I'm on study leave...so...) So let them have the long weekend, but I doubt I will watch the coverage of it in the weekend. Instead I will just listen to a bit of the good ol' Queen (The legendary British rock band).
I dunno why...
