Re: Does anybody actually genuinely care about the Jubilee?
Personally I couldn't really care less about the jubilee and I'm annoyed that college is closed on monday and tuesday because our only days are monday, tuesday and wednesday (full time BTEC) and we've got like 3 weeks left and tons of work to do! Could really do without it and I don't think I'll be celebrating it as such unless I get all my work done beforehand and there's a party I particularly want to go to.
I think it's nice for other people who work 9-5 monday-friday, pay tons of tax etc. with no deadlines involved in their work to have a day off to go put a hat on, have a bbq and be patriotic but it's bloody irritating if you've got things that need doing! -
Re: Does anybody actually genuinely care about the Jubilee? Are you one of these dear intellectuals, Martyn?(Original post by Martyn*)
Amongst some intellectuals the assumption is that the belief in the monarchy gels the nation together and keeps anarchy at bay. -

I really couldn't give a toss. -
Re: Does anybody actually genuinely care about the Jubilee?I love your opinions, would you like to have my babies?(Original post by Torpedo Fish)
I'm pretty apathetic towards the monarchy. I don't believe in divine right to rule or inherited privilege, but at the same time, I think by and large the royal family has been a good thing for Britain over the decades.
However I am baffled by this assumption, largely propagated by the media, that we are supposed to be passionately enthusiastic about 'celebrating' the Queen's Jubilee. Frankly, I've got more important things to worry about than, what is essentially the anniversary of the day a elderly lady put a very expensive hat on.
Just me or do others feel the same? -

Re: Does anybody actually genuinely care about the Jubilee?I mean that when people hear it was Nazi-related, people would generally not be happy about it and may stop doing it. Meaning they are gullible to anything Nazi-related (if they haven't done research).(Original post by lrs_17)
Why does the torch relay being introduced in 1936 mean people are "gullible" for celebrating it?
I'm sorry if this explanation is pretty shocking, even I don't know why I wrote it like that

Re: Does anybody actually genuinely care about the Jubilee?Haha, I don't think they'd be very shocked, it's not like they're condoning Nazism by participating, it's just a coincidence. That's like saying people would be shocked at German people playing in the games because "that's where the Nazis were from!".(Original post by Fool In The Rain)
