is toshiba laptop rubbish ?DSA laptop
i had completed my DSA need assessment since beginning of may and my assessor recommand a laptop ,
i recieved the order from barry bennett today and i m going to get a toshiba satelite L730-121 , its with 4gb Rem and 640gb Hard drive ,13.3''
but a slight problem is i heard that toshiba laptop is really crap and it broke extremely easily or it is really slow .
cause i never used a toshiba laptop before ,i dont want to make any prejudgement and say it is def going to be crap . but i think with £500 pound from DSA i should request a laptop that i m 100% sure its going to function properly without constantly having to repair it
i dont know the process of changing brand or upgrading the laptop , i heard you had to pay for the laptop first yourself then claiming it back but i dont have that much of money in my hand .
what do you guys think , any suggestion ? -
Re: is toshiba laptop rubbish ?DSA laptop
The laptop brand doesn't specify the speed of a computer, the processor does. I've checked and the model you said has a Core i3 processor in it, it isn't the most powerful of laptops but for most people a Core i3 is more than enough especially for university work.
Toshiba is one of the leading laptop manufacturers so the chance of a fault is lower than one of the unknown brands, also quality is generally higher. There have been some 'horror stories' for most laptop manufacturers, but considering the amount of laptops Toshiba sells these horror stories are really very small and most consumers will find that they never have a fault with their laptops. Plus if you do find any issues then you would be covered under the DSA warranty which is for the duration of your course.
You'd only need to upgrade the laptop if you wanted to play games or needed a high-end processor for something like video editing. There would be little other reason to upgrade beyond these specs.

Re: is toshiba laptop rubbish ?DSA laptop
When the assessor recommends a laptop, they can only chose between 3x specs A, B and C. The assessor can't state what make or model. Yours is a B spec, that just happens to be a Toshiba as Barry Bennett's do a lot with Toshiba and have a good relationship between them. Any problems you may have will be sorted very quickly. Most DSA laptops seem to be Toshiba, Dell or Acer.
