Instructor never turned up - first lesson
    Hi,

So basically I booked my first driving lesson on monday for this Today at 5.30 with the company's call centre.

But my instructor never turned up. Ive been waiting a while and thought he might be stuck in traffic or something, but it now seems clear he isn't turning up.

I don't have his personal phone number as its my first lesson with him. The driving school's call centre which I booked with closed at 5.30 and now I'm left clueless as to what's happened.

I would have thought that the instructor would have at least rung me to say that he can't make it rather than leave me waiting. My lesson is definitely booked as I double checked to confirm the booking on Monday.

Anyone had any experiences? I'm quite peed off as this is my only free time in the week which I specifically allocated for the lesson. Now I will have to wait until next week.

give them a ring tomorrow. Driving instructors are notoriously unreliable, worse than drug dealers. Ask them why _NAME_ didn't show up to your appointment at 5.30, if he gives you another lesson soon then you may as well do it, otherwise find someone who's not going to mess you about. When I started learning, my first instructor didn't turn up, lied about it, so I didn't waste my time with him anymore and got another one. It's not hard at all.

That's the problem with call centres and "middlemen". Communication isn't always the best.

Always deal directly with an instructor. Large driving school companies are a bit of a lottery.

I had this when I booked with the AA. Never heard anything, until several months later when I had a txt from her asking if I was still interested in lessons! I was tempted to send something really rude back, but decided it was best not. I was with another company by then

Wow lol, that instructor has the cheek to get back months later?

My instructor just rung me but I missed the call and now I've got a text from him. It reads:

"Hello [my name], its [name] your driving instructor from [company]. So sorry but i was unaware that i was to give u a lesson today.please call me to re-arrange."

That doesn't even sound like a legitimate excuse to me, more like he couldn't be ar*sed to turn up. How come he suddenly remembered an hour an a half after the lesson was supposed to start and became suddenly aware of it? Plus, I didn't even ring the company up to say that he didn't turn up.

I'm really not sure whether I want to reschedule with this particular instructor. I might give the company a call tomorrow and ask them for another instructor.

I know, I was shocked. All that time and no contact! I'm not sure how the companies pass on bookings/how they work out who will have the lesson in the first place. It MAY not be the person's fault, but you would still obviously be OK to ask for a new one, or even try a new company if you prefer

How about sending a text back saying:

"Hello [His Name]. I don't do business with people who let me down. You've had your chance; I've gone elsewhere."

    He doesn't deserve your business.

Just remember that YOU are paying THEM for a service. While most instructors do a great job and are reliable, there is a minority that don't do their job well unfortunately. There are good instructors out there so just find somebody else that will turn up for your first lesson

My first driving instructor turned up once, said he was ill and couldn't go ahead with the lesson, fair enough. Following week, he didn't turn up. I rang the company, only to be told he no longer works for them :erm:

Seems a bit odd for him to realise an hour and a half after the lesson, especially because of the fact that the driving centre had already closed?

I would personally not respond to him until after i got into contact with the driving centre, asked them about whether he had been informed etc, just to see if he had been b-s-ing.

I would then ask the drivng centre if it would be possible to get some sort of discount on my first lesson due to the inconsiderate inconvenience it caused, especially as you were in no way in the wrong and it was either the fault of the instructor or the company.

Like someone else said though, the companies are notorious for being pains. I wouuld recommend going with an independent/small school/instructor.
