Re: GCSE Maths AQA unit 3 june 13 (New spec)I feel sorry for you : I hate AQA they always make their papers harder than past papers, coincidently whenever I do the exam always harder(Original post by 21stcenturyphantom)
Well after todays terrible unit 2 resit I'm going to need a B or an A grade in unit 3 to get a B overall. I still have one day of cramming depressingly, whilst persecuting myself for not revising earlier; /sigh.
I didn't personally do it today but I see your point, I did a resit in march the paper wasn't like past papers. I should have not crammed personally as well, but at least it will be fresh in our Mind. So glad that maths will be over after Wednesday then just an ict core theory exam, lol I am giving a story: anyways good luck and take care and I hope you get the B you want

Where can I find grade boundaries? Someone reply ASAP please(Original post by Young Hot Stalin)
I know the AQA have given official grade boundaries, however, is it possible once the papers are marked that they will adjust the boundaries, in particular making them higher? I don't know what would happen if they did
Anyone have any fail-proof ways of using the cosine rule to work out area? Or it is simply memorising?

Re: GCSE Maths AQA unit 3 june 13 (New spec)Which parts of the exam are you focusing mostly on? I'm focusing on Volume, Quadratic graphs and the quadratic formula, Area of triangles and circles + perimeter, Circle theorems and trigonometry including Pythagoras, Sine and Cosine rule.(Original post by tupac makaveli)

Re: GCSE Maths AQA unit 3 june 13 (New spec)I am focusing on circle theorems, cones, sine and cosine rule, Pythagoras theorem, cylinders, vectors ... Good luck I hope the paper goes well for us 2 and we get an A* we still have a sort of safety barrier where if we get 60% we get an A but obviously max effort and hopefully we get 75% above for A*. I am so glad that we scored high in first 2, so slightly less pressure where we were averaging 85% in unit 1 and 2 and above and feeling that 60% as safety gives an A here. I have done all the practise papers and I hope they are similar in difficulty as they weren't too bad but knowing AQA(Original post by ads22uk)

Re: GCSE Maths AQA unit 3 june 13 (New spec)There are no grade Boundaries as this paper is to be taken for the first time ever, it's a new syllabus and so my teacher said 48-50 / 80 which is around 60% is roughly A and 60-62/80 roughly A* with is roughly 75%. But remember it depends on what you got in first 2 modules: for example I know I need roughly 58% for an A which would be 2 marks roughly from an A. Anyway take and good luck and wish you and everyone on here the very best(Original post by alj123)

Re: GCSE Maths AQA unit 3 june 13 (New spec)Not to be rude I was replying to someone else if you look who I quoted(Original post by Young Hot Stalin)
I meant grade boundaries for UMS marks of the whole gcse out of 300 points, they are official the AQA exam board published them before we started our gcse, the ones they haven't produced is the raw marks etc for Unit 3

270 out of 300 equates to an A* and 240 out of 300 equates to an A. I know what raw marks I just answered someone else's question ( 1= 80 2= 100 3= 120 UMS). Anyways good luck and take care wish you well

Re: GCSE Maths AQA unit 3 june 13 (New spec)Did you notice in the past papers that the questions that come up are pretty much exactly the same but with different numbers e.g. the one about converting fuel economy into gallons i've seen twice and then there are loads of others that have come up more than once. Makes me wonder if they'll have the same thing in the exam.(Original post by tupac makaveli)

Re: GCSE Maths AQA unit 3 june 13 (New spec)Yeah now you come to think of it your right, the papers have similar questions with similar difficulty. They are obviously different topics on each practise paper, but the topics they repeat they just change the format or numbers. The common questions are like the sector one and also the proof alternate angles cyclic quadrilateral, also similar circle theorems, arc etc... They have come in each practise paper so very strong chance of coming up and so we should revise them areas. Hopefully similar to practise papers difficulty : P1 paper was easiest out of the sets. Anyway good luck my friend(Original post by ads22uk)

Having revised a little, today is my day of absolute torture lol. I'm not sure how the grading works. I got a B and an A* on units 1 & 2. Does anybody have an idea as to what grade in unit 3 would result in an A or B? Perhaps if I had a 'target' it would settle me lol. Good luck tomorrow everyone!

, well since total ums out of 300 where 270 is an A* and 240 an A: Having got a B If I can remember that equates to roughly 58-60 UMS out of 80 UMS in unit 1 and A* in unit 2 which you have is 90+ out of 100 UMS. So your aiming for around 80 + /120 ums on unit 3 for an A. Predicted grade boudaries are 48-50 out of 80 for an A unit 3 ( raw marks ) and 60-62 + for an A*. So overall I think you looking at trying to get middlish A for an A overall and middlish A* for overall A*.
Anyways good luck and take care

Nice one
that's good both of us averaging roughly the same, I think you got a little higher in unit 1 and I got little higher in unit 2. Same here hoping for an A* as well : hopefully we both get it, we need at least 60/80 on the paper for A* but looking at our grades possibly 63 will be confirmed and 48-50/80 should be A. True there are a lot more topics, some people said that the exam itself will be a little bit easier than papers as it is new syllabus and so need high grades to encourage schools to use their syllabus. The papers were not too bad : average, I hope AQA don't make it hard like physics unit 3: worst paper so far.
anyway good luck and take care and I hope we both ace it, use bitesize and mymaths
I also got similar!
Unit 1: 70/80 UMS
Unit 2: 99/100 UMS
Good luck and everything - will be thinking of your guys tomorrow
Oh! Forgot to say - my teacher has calculated that if the grade boundaries are similar to the practice papers i need 67/80 to get an A* overall, so yours may be similarLast edited by kited4; 12-06-2012 at 11:09. -
Re: GCSE Maths AQA unit 3 june 13 (New spec)Wouldn't that suggest that they won't come up? Haha(Original post by SophieLisa96)
i think vectors may come up... hardly any in the practise papers!
