Re: 9/11 JumpersJumping hundreds of feet to their death rather than burning alive?(Original post by cyfer)
From what I have heard Americans generally prefer not to talk about them, perhaps due to the fact that they chose the option of suicide/an easy route out
Yeah, easy decision..

Re: 9/11 Jumpers
I don't think they are among normal people.
I suppose a few very conservative religious people frowned upon it but nobody that I know personally feels the same way. The reason there was so much publicity around the jumpers, I guess is because as far as I'm aware it was the first time there has (effectively) been what some might consider a "mass suicide" (all though I really didn't like writing that) in the full view of public/media. -
Re: 9/11 Jumpers
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I thought a lot of it was due to the fact among some people, jumping instead of staying inside the building was an act of suicide? I'm probably off the mark, but I think that was the case with one of the families interviewed in 9/11: The Falling Man. It's been a long time since I've seen it, though

Re: 9/11 JumpersProbably more in the respect they didn't stay inside and try and save lives etc.(Original post by Bubbles*de*Milo)

Re: 9/11 JumpersHow, pray tell, do you 'try and save lives' trapped on the 50th floor of a burning building, where the floors below you are incidentally on fire?(Original post by ATCAdam)

Re: 9/11 Jumpersno, the whole pass out/have a heart attack if you fall from great heights thing is a bit of a urban myth but you would still die pretty quickly upon impact so i think jumping would still be preferable.(Original post by ALazyThracian)
Right i had this discussion a while back in class.
Would you rather burn alive in a steel fireball or jump and have a painless death?
Can someone also answer this also it turned into a sub debate, if someone jumped would they pass out during free fall?Last edited by Darth Stewie; 01-06-2012 at 04:14. -
I'm pretty sure that if you jump from a height you die of fright or something before you hit the ground. I could e completely wrong, but thats what I have been told(Original post by ALazyThracian)

Re: 9/11 JumpersRight. Because that's obviously the first thing you're looking to do when a plane crashes into your building. Save everybody else's lives.(Original post by ATCAdam)

Re: 9/11 JumpersHave you ever been in a situation surrounded by people dieing and panic, where you are terifed and know you are going to/could die? Ill give you some advice, even after a lot of training most people arnt thinking about colateral damage.(Original post by SummerAnthems)
I wouldn't say they were frowned upon. They did however put others lives in danger when they jumped. It was a big problem for the firefighters trying to access the building. -
Re: 9/11 JumpersGoing to echo this. In the end, neither option is better, and I've never heard of them being looked down on, but then I'm not American.(Original post by Bubbles*de*Milo)
