Stop complaining about insurance and check out this.
Two days ago i brought a 3 litre v6 jag. Not in supercar territory but thought it would still be costly for insurance. Turns out that it ifs 5 years old its classes as a classic! So forget about 1 litre **** boxes and paying 3 grand to be bored to death. Buy a thirsy cream leather, walnut dashed tank and spend 300 quid on insurance instead.

Re: Stop complaining about insurance and check out this.
Yep. That is in the insurance thread and something that a lot of people on here have been saying for years. It is only if you are a sheep and follow the crowd that you are going to get shafted.
A Defender is another good choice, but personally, I would have a Volvo 850 as a first car, they are built like a tank with air bags everywhere. There are very fights you wouldn't win with that. -
Re: Stop complaining about insurance and check out this. This can't be true otherwise my Polo is a classical car.(Original post by Maccees)
Cars that are five years old count as classics?
The definition of a Classical car in the UK is:
Taken from wikipedia for precise definition.United Kingdom
There is no fixed definition of a classic car. Two taxation issues do impact however, leading to some people using them as cutoff dates. All cars built before January 1, 1973, are exempted from paying the annual road tax vehicle excise duty. This is then entered on the license disc displayed on the windscreen as "historic vehicle" (if a car built before this date has been first registered in 1973 or later, then its build date would have to be verified by a recognized body such as British Motor Heritage Foundation to claim tax free status). The HM Revenue & Customs define a classic car for company taxation purposes as being over 15 years old and having a value in excess of £15,000. -
Re: Stop complaining about insurance and check out this.Im not as young as most on here. Closer to your age. And my 9 points and 2 accidents make them squirm a bit.(Original post by JC.)
Ive owned and insured all cars mentioned so far in this thread very cheaply - several jags, Ovlov 850 and a LR.
When you're a bit older you'll be paying less for a V8 model than you currently pay for a 6. -

My renewals were around £120 odd per car this year.

Re: Stop complaining about insurance and check out this.
Sorry to bump but I've been looking at original Minis which are about 20 years old and are more expensive to insure than most modern cars, so where does one get this classic car insurance? Also, surely it doesn't work out any better financially when you take into account tax and fuel let alone the work which needs to be carried out on it?

Re: Stop complaining about insurance and check out this.
I am 21. Passed my test 6 months ago. And have a diesel Volvo v70. Insurance is £850. Parts and servicing is expensive. Fuel economy and towing capacity makes up for it, along with cheap insurance. May I add also, climate control, heated cream leather seats, electric mirrors, electric windows. Umm, climate control, child locks, abs, casette player, heated rear window and mirrors, fog light.
The only thing wrong is that it isn't cool. -
Re: Stop complaining about insurance and check out this. What company is this with?(Original post by AdamPug306)
I'm 19, got a quote on a 1998 BMW 523iSE for £1500, one year no claims.
