Does your dog howl at strange things?
    Hi all.

Since being young Harry, our little Westie, has always howled when the rag and bone man come past saying "ANY OLD SCRAP IROOOOON!" and tooting that irritating horn.

He howls like I'd imagine wolves do! Is this some weird innate behaviour of all dogs?

Does your pet howl at something similar? (I know many dogs do the same with sirens).

My old dog, before she passed away, used to howl at anything and everything. I think it's just natural dog behaviour.

I have a greyhound and she is an extremely timid dog. However, ambulance/police sirens send her wild - she howls so loud and won't stop for ages. It's quite embarassing when it happens on a walk :P Also she howls at ice cream vans sometimes, and also if you play the harmonica

I and my cousin love to keep kittens or cats. I genuinely abhor dogs. Once, my cousin's kitten ate chocolate and got died. Alas! She is inanimate anymore because chocolate is toxic for cats.

Not really, no. One throws a right paddy if you go out. He just ignores you if you come back in.

When my dog is annoyed or startled he does a weird howl-bark-growl thing, whilst simultaneously running backwards and shaking his head. He's only a puppy and it's very funny to watch!

(He'll also do it if he smells oranges, anti-bac gel or nail varnish, which he hates with a passion)

No howling, but my dog freaks out at fireworks and planes passing overhead.

He also released this horrible smelling fear-stink when he first saw my dad walk into the room wearing a motorbike helmet :puke:

My dog never howls, but she often STARES at this painting we have. It's actually really creepy. And sometimes her head/eyes move as if shes's watching something

No, but my cat likes to sit in corners and howl when there's a full moon.

    Yeah.

She howls at me for leaving the toilet seat up, not doing particular things and not getting rid of a pair of socks with holes in them.

My dog howls when people are out on their dirtbikes not far from my house, and when my neighbour plays a flute or some instrument like that!

My dog howls at most things... Any loud noises outside the house, if you leave him shut in one room accidentally, if you say certain words (I swear sometimes I think he can understand English). I think it's just what they do!

One of ours barks at certain adverts on the TV, it used to happen occasionally and it would be hilarious but now it happens with such frequency its just a nuisance.

My first border collie cross ( now deceased) used to howl at the old opening credits of news at ten.The chimes and bongs of Big Ben used to drive her mad.

My current border collie cross doesnt howl at anything but does bark a lot at things.

It howls whenever someone's playing music. And it barks ferociously at my guitar (even when I'm not playing it) and at the postman.
