    First MAC lipstick
Looking to lose my MAC lipstick virginity but I have no idea what colour/finish to buy.

I like pinky peachy coral nudes that you can wear everyday. I'm not keen on uber shiny finishes either.

    Thanks!

Go into a MAC shop like one in cambridge they're really good in there and will be able to help you out in finding the right colour for you.

Lustering is a nice natural pink but its not so light that you look like you have foundation lips

Personally though I think if you're going to go for a MAC lipstick you need something bold like Russian Red!

Go bold! My first MAC lipstick was Ruby Woo. Initially, I thought it was too bold, but it has definitely grown on me!

I love MAC lipsticks! Probably one of my fave lipstick formulas. I second Shy Girl as a pinky peachy coral nude

My first MAC lipstick was Saint Germain.

I've just been looking at swatches for Shy Girl. I think it's 'the one', haha.

Would Impassioned suit a pale skin?

I'm pale and I'd wear Impassioned. But I do have a penchant for bright lipsticks

I'd recommend Costa Chic, it's a pinky-coral colour but it's quite bright so I don't wear it a lot during the day.

OP, From your display pic it looks like you have a similar complexion to me and my first mac was "Honey Love", Really nice matte peachy beige which I now wear everyday. I prefer mac's matte finish, because it's the only one I've found that is actually matte! And they smell lovely kinda like subtle vanilla marshmallows! (Unless it's just me that thinks that :P)

On a night out I love Viva Glam I with brick lip liner

I had this dilemma too so I gave up and decided not to get one in case I wasted money on a crap colour

This is what I'm scared of. I love MAC but I don't love their prices.

Does their matte finish emphasise dry lips? I tend to avoid matte lipsticks because my lips get really dry .

I think that the Matte formula is a bit drying and unforgiving if you have dry lips. I'd definitely recommend the Amplified Creme or Cremesheen formulas. Shy girl is a good shout (although I do not personally own it). My favourite everyday lipsticks from there are Fanfare, Cosmo, Modesty and Please me, but they're all variations of pink, Creme d'Nude looks like a nice peachy nude though, as does Myth. Some nice coral lipsticks are Vegas Volt and Reel Sexy.

If you apply lip balm first you should be able to get around this and achieve a nice finish

If you've got a total of 6 empties (empty foundation bottle, eyeshadow pan or pressed powder etc - they do also take used up eyebrow pencils or mascaras but no boxes) you get a free lipstick!

That's how I got my first one and I got Girl About Town - I also have Ravishing, Lustering and Russian Red.

I know. I've got 4 MAC boxes saved up so I just need another 2 .

edit: I thought they accepted boxes? When they say 'back 2 mac' on them, doesn't it mean exchange for a free lipstick?

Damn! Thanks for the heads up anyway. I'll ask next time I'm in my MAC store.
