So let me get this straight. Al Qaeda and it's "activists" infiltrated the BBC and forced them to post a photo from Iraq saying it's from Syria? They're getting really brutal nowadays.
    :congrats:

    You win the derp award.

    Don't be so ridiculous.

    1. The image is listed on the site as unverified.

    2. If the BBC were going to fake it then they wouldn't use a real image from Iraq that was already in wide circulation. Neither would they specifically label it "unverified".

    3. It's not a world away from what actually happened - so what's the big deal?

It's also ridiculous that even if they were trying to exploit, you dismiss them as "political goals". Is that how you consider the fight against the terrorists killing thousands of Iraqis - merely a "political goal"?
The clowns who fed the BBC this lie knew it was fake. There is no excuse for this.

The BBC needs to get it's act together when it comes to "unverified" material.

BBC - another government controlled company. People say in other countries, the media have no freedom, thats not true, the difference is in Britain, the media don't complain about it.

What brilliant debating skills you have there... Perhaps you could explain what exactly someone is meant to take from the post you made then? (Or you could just hide behind insults - that way you don't actually have to prove anything or even talk sense!).

Did they now? I'm assume you know them then?

And again, even if they did, there is nothing to get "furious" about...

I can say the same for you! Calling me brain dead and all that? Good skills demonsrated mate!

Like its going to sway airhead zionists.

(Or you could just hide behind insults - that way you don't actually have to prove anything or even talk sense!).
Er, you're the only person who made insults.

I have never called you brain dead or insulted you. I can now wholly justifiably call you illiterate though...

And if nothing will ever sway Zionists - why bother saying anything at all? Though I'm confused as to why I would be a Zionist just because I don't follow your conspiracy theories? I could equally claim there is a Arab plot to blow up the planet - if you don't believe me you must be in on it or supporting it (or thick).

I do admit I don't know the official technical meaning of Zionist, but I've yet to encounter one who despises Israel.

In practice they take the amount of care consistent with their political aims.

If they are considering material that supports their aims, they aren't too woried about its provenance.

If the material undermines its aims, they won't touch it until its been verified and published by every other news organistation in the world.

Is it? I assumed the point would be where they make an assumption over something they have had no part in?

There is no logical reason why it MUST have been a conspiracy plot by evil Syrians to trick them (though you also say maybe it will make them report more honestly in future - which implies you think they knew it was fake?) and couldn't possibly have been a human error... This being the same organisation who displayed a logo from Halo to represent a UN agency only days ago...

And for the third and final time, it really is an irrelevant point. Whether they are contained in a warehouse like that or not, far more than that have been killed during this conflict - so it's not exactly some huge conspiracy making up fundamental lies.

No it's not a human error. You can't easily confuse a photo from a massacre that took place within the last day with a photo about another country that is 9 years old.

Someone, at some point, retrieved this photo from an archive (almost certainly google images) then fed it up the chain to the BBC.

And yes it does matter, because it's a blatant lie. You may think lies are ok in this context, I do not.

One thing also, you really don't get the politics of the situation, but it is extremely offensive to Iraqis. A lot of people have been furious over this.

"Fed it up the chain to the BBC"? I'd be surprised if there was a "chain" to get it onto the article. You have absolutely no idea whether it's human error or not and are just letting your anger guide your view on the matter.

No, I don't "get" the politics of it. Most of the various outrages that causes fury in the likes of Iraq, Afghanistan etc. (at least the ones that are reported) are utterly ridiculous in my view. Particularly when they go on a rampage and end up killing people over something trivial. It's that kind of reaction that leads to people in the West viewing them as primitive and uncivilised societies (while of course, on the whole, they aren't).

I actually thought this was satirical at first reading...

I love this scaremongering 'give an inch, they'll take a mile' attitude some people are advocating. We have as much reason to believe that this was an honest (albeit foolish mistake) than it was part of a calculated spate of BBC propaganda. Surely the former is infinitely more likely, at least when any personal prejudices are left at the door? Don't crank up your own propaganda machine, even one as effortlessly farcical as your own.

Oh look, you dropped your tin foil hat.

the BBC’s director general Mark Thompson can hardly be described as a disinterested party: in 2005 he made a trip to Jerusalem where he met with Ariel Sharon in what was seen in Israel as an attempt to ‘build bridges’ and ‘a "softening" to the corporation’s unofficial editorial line on the Middle East’. Thompson, ‘a deeply religious man’, is ‘a Catholic, but his wife is Jewish, and he has a far greater regard for the Israeli cause than some of his predecessors’ sources at the corporation told The Independent.

What do you think the director is doing meeting with Israels top officials, talking about what they had for tea last night?

Oh look, you dropped your tin foil hat.

Let me just get this straight, you think that the choice to publish this particular photograph was yet another facet of the top-down propagandistic bias of the BBC? Oh hang on, could your response equally be a pathetically ill thought-out attempt at latching onto any "news story" as fodder for your personal political beliefs?

P.S. Your last line doesn't quite work, I'll let you work it out.

No one is going to go on a rampage over this issue, in fact, the Iraqi government seems to have done bugger all about it.

You don't get why it's offensive because you don't come from a country that was run like a concentration camp and where you may well have ended up in one of these mass graves. Nor do you get the relation between Iraqis and the rest of the Arab world, and why this is more than just a minor annoyance.
