Re: What social 'class' am I?I think you're quite like Mrs. Bucket of Palm Springs, I mean Mrs Bouquet.(Original post by Torpedo Fish)
I know it's not particularly important in modern Britain but I am still a little curious to discover how other people would view me classwise. I think of myself as a bit of an inbetweener, not really fitting into any well defined social group.
Anyway.. a little of my background:
I live in a pretty affluent suburban town in the South East of England. My Father is an insurance underwriter and my Mother is a medical receptionist. I went to a comprehensive school (all-be-it an above average one) and then went on to my local six form college to do my A levels. I am now studying Chemistry at the University of Southampton. Meanwhile, I prefer football to rugby, I vote Labour, I enjoy a pint over a Pimms and I do not and shall never wear any Jack Wills garments.
So based on this what would you say my social class is likely to be?

And sometimes spend most my time in my pj's. -
Re: What social 'class' am I?Haha no I think that's just my own opinion. The only non-English member of my family is my Great-Nan who is German. Everyone else for generations is English.(Original post by zara55)
Right, but you're not English by origin? I was just picking up on your attitude to class, which sounds non-English? -
Re: What social 'class' am I?They had money in their families but just wanted to work too. A good work ethic!(Original post by zara55)
How long is "a while"? Just trying to get a handle on your immediate class background - were your parents raised working class, or did they have money in their families? -
Re: What social 'class' am I?Thanks for that. Everyone with a Pakistan flag is a child groomer too. I love generalisations.(Original post by Dhaal_Chawal)
Underclass -
Re: What social 'class' am I?LOL, that little percentage of German is shining through!(Original post by Aramiss18)

Re: What social 'class' am I?Your previous post implies that all working class people are poor. I was simply taking issue with you wanting to hold up some of the most deprived areas of the country up as demonstrations of working class people when in those areas a large amount of people arn't even working.(Original post by Chucklefiend)
So you saying that everybody who lives in Bradford, Moss Side or the poorer areas of Liverpool are members of the underclass are you? Because that's what this post implies. -
Re: What social 'class' am I?You sound like you are solidly in the money, anyway. Hence the ID "Bill Gates"?(Original post by Bill_Gates)

Re: What social 'class' am I?I would put myself as Middle Class.(Original post by zara55)

Re: What social 'class' am I?Duh. I think she's joking, silly.(Original post by Aramiss18)
I have spoken to my Nan 3 times in the last 5 years so no it's not. Those are the opinions of an English person- you don't seem to like that. -
Re: What social 'class' am I?Whilst the unemployment figures for these areas is admittedly very high, the majority of residents are still employed (mostly in blue collar jobs). I therefore see no issue with highlighting these places as largely working class areas.(Original post by Aramiss18)

Re: What social 'class' am I?Why is it relevant that you spend a lot of time in your pj's?(Original post by Bill_Gates)

Take a look at the title of this thread. It says "What social 'class' am I?"
That means the OP is referring to himself. He is not asking what social class we all are; if he was, he would have said "What social 'class' are you?" -
Re: What social 'class' am I?Somewhere between in the middle, and upper middle. I'd be inclined to say upper middle. But I wouldn't focus on it too much, more important things in life(Original post by Torpedo Fish)
