Excessive sweating - I'm so embarassed
I'm an 18 year old female and ever since year 7 I have suffered from excessive sweating under my armpits. It's not only occurs during the summer but in winter also. I have tried every deodorant under the sun and have been to my GP twice and on both occasions the prescribed anti persperants failed to work. I went to the dermatologist recently and due to all the government cuts, he said that getting funding for the Botox treatment would be very difficult. Doing this treatment privately will cos a lot of money and it only lasts 6 months after which you have to go back and get it again. I'm getting depressed because of this and have been bullied in the past. Any ideas of what else I could try? Thanks.

Re: Excessive sweating - I'm so embarassed
On embarrassing Bodies there was someone with this problem too and they said about the botox injections as the most extreme thing, so I think that might be the best thing but maybe check http://www.channel4embarrassingillnesses.com/ there? you could talk to gp's on there and i dont know if you contact embarrassing bodies they pay for it? not sure but good luck!

Re: Excessive sweating - I'm so embarassedTried maximum protection and it didn't work. And I will look into sweat guards thanks x(Original post by Cake Faced Kid.)
Have you tied sure maximum protection? I use that and is brilliant. You could try underarm sweat guards, maybe? -

Re: Excessive sweating - I'm so embarassedHad the same issue. Saw my GP about it. He recommended I use Roll on rather than deodorants. He especially recommended this.(Original post by Anonymous)

(Yes, the men's one)
And yes, Botox is not NHS supported.
But seriously, that roll on is great. It's in boots for like £2.80 something. So no harm in trying. -
Re: Excessive sweating - I'm so embarassed
As posted above, Mitchum is super strong and really good stuff. Roll ons are better than sprays- I used to sweat like nobody's business on wards until I switched and now have no problems.
Have you ever tried anhydrol forte? You can buy it in chemists for about a fiver. It's super concentrated antiperspirant. Roll it on, go to bed, wake up with pores that are basically sealed off for a week or more. It's really strong though so don't get into the habit of using it instead of normal deodorant. -
Re: Excessive sweating - I'm so embarassed
Definitely get Driclor! All throughout school I was so embarassed about sweating, in summer I'd keep my jumper on so no one would see the sweat patches on my shirt and I boiled alive when it was hot.
I only use it about once or twice a fortnight when I notice I've started sweating again. You only have to put it on and night and it's a tiny bit itchy/stingy but totally worth it. Especially if you're out clubbing or whatever and you stay dry all night. -
Re: Excessive sweating - I'm so embarassedThyroid is unlikely in this age range in the absence of other symptoms, and the anxiety/sleeplessness/weight loss would be just as noticeable and most likely mentioned I'd have thought.(Original post by Freak Out)
Could be due to thyroid disorder or magnesium (amongst other vitamins) deficiency. -

Re: Excessive sweating - I'm so embarassedNot actually true, according to studies the fitter you are the easier you sweat and the more you sweat because your body becomes conditioned for the exercise you put it through.
