So what about the 99.99% of people who watch porn and do not rape people?

"Police discovered the girl had been sexually assaulted a number of times in a shed in the garden of her home between December 1, 2010 and January 31 2011.

The boy, who lived next door, also abused the girl in his bedroom in front of a 12-year-old friend."

The fact that this boy abused this girl more than once speaks volumes to me. In my opinion, this boy will go on to commit sexual offences again. It's absolutely ridiculous to consider that internet porn was behind his actions.

Although saying that, the 9 year old girl understanding that sex leads to a baby "in her tummy" seems strange to me as well. I can only assume that being a child has changed significantly since my childhood, as at 9 years old I don't recall knowing what the physical act of sex actually was, never mind it leading to a baby in my tummy!

I was told by my mother that babys came from two people that love each other and had a long 'hug'. lol not a massive lie I guess, and I thought this until I had sex education in year 6.

I agree, I doubt people who are claiming that minors/children should watch porn in this forum are above 18. And no, everybody who watches porn doesn't turn into into a rapist, but there is a correlation.

Huh? Are you really not able to see the missing connection there?

Those exceptions watch more porn because they have an intense desire for sex/sociopathic interest in sex/etc. They rape because they have an intense desire for sex/sociopathic interest in sex.

Porn in these situations is more often than not used to feed desires that would exist anyway. It doesn't form the desires. It's like saying "Every time I eat, I get hungry 5 hours later! Food makes me hungry!".
Soon the Daily Mail will blame racing games for drivers breaking the speed limits.

I do agree that this is not your typical 12 year old that happened to watch to porn and immitated it. Certainly his environment should be investigated. But still exposing children of young ages to porn can be damaging in a variety of ways.

Then, as a responsible parent, you try to restrict the access your child has to that content.
The same argument you make can be made to films, tv shows, music, games, even newspapers. Yet we do not try to ban those because we realise that people should be allowed to make their own choices to view that content.

in an ideal world that would. But unfortunately many parents are not responsible.

Wat. Porn has existed for thousands of years. We've actually seen an decrease in rape, whilst access to porn has increased. You can't pull a random exception out of your ass and claim it as the rule.

the big picture :O something that alludes the media when focusing on a negative thing

That is their fault. Not the rest of society.
If you are arguing porn should be banned / blocked so children don't see it, why not use the same argument for the other types of media that I mentioned?

If we're going to ban porn, then can we also ban the likes of Loose Women and Desperate Housewives so we can prevent young girls from viewing men as objects then? Thanks

Sorta in the mood to watch porn now.

Don't do it! You'll be the subject of both a Daily mail article and a TSR thread. And who wants that?

I first watched porn when I was 11...
How many people have I raped? 0.
How many people have I wanted to rape? 0.
Do I think women are objects? No.
etc. etc.

Anything can be harmful when given to mentally stunted kids :colonhash:

This

Well, the Daily mail can go **** itself.

And this :yes

its impossible for parents to monitor their children 24 hours a day especially now because of the internet.

no one is suggesting porn should be banned or that anyone who watches porn becomes a rapist. but young minds can be influenced by this extreme material.

adult TV is pay per view, kids can't just switch onto hardcore porn on TV. i think the same measures need to be in place on the internet.

The boy is under 13, so technically didn't he rape himself? Isn't the law biased in some way that it assumes it's the boys fault and the boy is always the rapist?

Sex education really needs to be taught at a much younger age, then these kids won't be getting all their ideas about sex from porn.

And I can't believe the story, they actually put this young child on the stand? That must have been terrifying. He needs help and advice, not that.
It's the Daily Mail...
'Nuff said.
i've been watching porn everyday for the past 8 years, i haven't raped any one..... as of yet.:hump:

To my mind this is not a case for banning porn, but a case for better sexual education in schools and for encouraging parents to talk to their children about sex. What does it say that he was getting his ideas about sex from porn, not his parents?

Of course, that wouldn't fit with the Daily Fail's Victorian agenda, so they twist it to make it about restricting freedom of expression - sort of like banning tall buildings in case someone jumps off one.

While on death row in his last interview, Ted Bundy said that watching hardcore pornography was a key factor in the killings of several innocents. He was saying that to lay the blame on something other than himself. Like how those caught using drugs always say they're "addicted" and they need to go to rehab to escape prison and escape blame when there's nothing really wrong with them.

He was also appealing to the extreme Christian right and trying to prevent his death sentence. He would have said anything.

He knew perfectly well what he was doing was wrong by the way he took her to the shed, out of sight of other people.

Yes the porn had influence but I think the messed up kid is more to blame. At 12 years old you are old enough to know what's right and wrong yet he did it anyway.

Yes because everyone before their 12th birthday is sat down and taught that sex is wrong

No. In most cases they haven't even been taught about sex. How were the children to know what they were doing was considered "wrong" by society? It's not like they were torturing each other and the harm was apparent through screams of pain.

I don't think anyone in the world has been arguing that 12 year olds watching hardcore porn is okay

That's the age most people start watching porn, if not younger.

I don't see anything wrong with it, as long as they understand it's unrealistic nature and have had proper sex education.
