If you're thinking of getting your tongue pierced
I'm just gonna write this in case there's anyone here considering getting their tongue pierced, because this is exactly the info I could have done with!!!

I got my tongue pierced a week ago and have had a massive ordeal due to the fact that my tongue didn't swell, so the 22mil bar was moving around loads and making the piercing sore. I changed it myself to a 16mil bar, which felt so tight that I went to a piercing shop today, and they told me it was too small and gave me and 18mil one. Now it is just right but it will take ages to heal because of me having messed around with it too much.

So yeah my advice would be go to a piercer who you can keep up contact with, somewhere friendly where you can go back after a week, or drop them a text or whatever, because I think the sizing is quite difficult and variable. I put off going because the piercer I went to originally was sooo moody that I had to find somewhere different that I thought could actually help with my problem. Thankfully I did.

Just make sure you go somewhere good, basically. And get them to check up on it after about a week. This was the big mistake I made with mine

What does it feel like when the needle goes in? I want mine doing so badly but I'm a little worried about the pain.

The needle going in is the least painful part of the whole process - you literally hardly feel it. It isn't like when you bite your tongue or something - that hurts!
If anything I'd say something like getting your ears pierced with a gun is a much sharper, more intense pain.
Trust me if you do go through with it you will laugh about how little you feel when you actually get it done, compared to how much you thought it would hurt.
If you don't believe me, stick your tongue out as far as you can, and count to say, 30. Pay close attention to the aching you feel in your tongue. That is the most painful part of getting the piercing done. If you can do it once, you can do it again!

It's just the week after that is painful!!! I'm on day 7 now however and it has finally stopped hurting. But trust me you will need a lot of ibuprofen/paracetamol, water, non-alcohol mouthwash, and soft foods. I even had one day where I just decided not to talk at all because my tongue just needed a rest. But it's worth it after the initial few days

Hmm, the piercer should have told you to come back after a week anyway to get the bar changed into a smaller one. It's all free too. They always put a huge bar to allow for swelling...
If your piercer never mentioned that you had to come back to get it changed, I would say it's likely to be a bad piercing place. Avoid next time!

For other readers, make sure to ask your tattooist if they change the bar after a week before getting it done. You don't want to be spending extra money for a different sized bar just to find out it's too small or still too large. They should do it all for free
