I think maths people can be a bit stupid - you ask them why some maths works the way it does in a problem, and they end up just telling you what to do. Just like computers that don't know why they are doing works...
not so much stupid, more inept

A lot of mathematical explanation would stray into degree level knowledge or beyond (which many A level teachers would not be able to answer). At A level, it's mainly a case of understand and accepting a method rather than knowing why it works.

Exactly. There are many pointless rules in Maths, that when you ask it 'just works' but they cannot be explained...
Not true really, once you get into C3/C4 -The A* moduals. You have to be able to apply what you've learnt to get the A*s.

Although to get a B its not too bad, mainly past papers and youre sorted. Saying that the past few years, even that has become much harder. You really have to know whats going on!

They're both very different subjects, meaning that they're hard to compare. I would personally say that the English-based subjects are a lot easier, but it depends what you're best at. Some people have a raw writing ability, whereas others learn best through memorisation of facts. Sciences definitely require more work, especially if you look at the revision you need to do. But as I said, it's hard to compare

Is biology good at A Level to take with English?
In my opinion, English is best supported with other arts subjects. The essays don't have a strict formula, unlike History/geography. I found English alone very hard and I would suggest doing History etc if that is the only arts subject you are going to do.

Otherwise, BIology and English are unrelated, although of all the sciences, biology is the one people who do English tend to go for as it's lest maths based (and without generalising, 90% of the popele I know who do english hates everything to do with maths). I wouldn't say Biology and English are complementary, that's like asking if Physics and French are complementary, which they're not.

    On sorry, they're A2 exams.

The AS stuff Isn't too bad though, but to be getting the real 100/100's you'll have properly understand. It's A2 that screws people over lol

Don't get me started on Further Maths -that just destroys any subject

Yeah its annoying, I see why the teach it that way, but I'd rather learn less and have some understanding as well... they give the proofs and stuff in the textbooks but they're so badly written!

Ah right, thanks. Well im pretty good at art and Spanish too so I could maybe choose English language, english literature, Fine Art and Spanish. Are they more suited?
And yes, I do hate Maths haha!

I can't claim to know much about other subjects, except that English Language is very formulaic compared to Literature, and Spanish is uber hard unless you speak it fluently. Art is also a big work load. I attempted picking it up as an A Level in year 10, I got about 1/3 of the way through in a year. granted I was doing it after school, but I put so much time into art that I missed my others subjects and my grades went down (had to retake a few modules at GCSE).

If you are going to pick a science, I would go for Biology as it isn't maths related (chemistry isn't either, but I know people who get freaked out by the most basic arithmetic so...)

What aout History or geography? They are both good subjects

It depends what you want to do, really. For example, if you wanted to do a undergraduate degree in psychology then yes as it shows you have scientific knowledge and you can write coherent essays. But if you wanted to do English at uni, then there would be little point really. Unless you like biology, of course. :P

I would say getting an A* for english is harder because unlike maths and science, there really is an element of luck of who is marking your paper and what they think of your writing.
Whereas for the other, once you get the answer right you get it right.

Well, I am currently at A* in Spanish and A* in art. I have been advised to take art and I'm definitely taking English. I do take history at gcse, but it is not the type of history I like (we do hitler and the wars, but I like tudors Victorians etc) so I probably won't take history, I am an A in it at the moment but it is not enjoyable.

Its all relative. I got an A* on Eglish Lit but got an A for Physics, Biology and Chemistry and some of my classmates are better at Science. Doesn't make me more intelligent than them.

    No.

There is no such thing as "Raw Talent".

Define intelligence in your arguements favour then you might have a leg to stand on... Oh wait, you cant do that because the paradigm of definition is science.

All literature does is talk about definition and sound pretty. It discovers nothing and requires no creative, abstract, or problem solving thought.

But the thing is, arriving to that "answer" isn't always as simple as you make it seem. Not to mention for some subjects, the answer is decided after the papers are sat, meaning it may be "correct" but at the same time incorrect just because it wasn't on the mark scheme.
