It is indeed true. I have no medical qualifications or experience but I'm gonna try and pull some strings with my GP to get into the profession. -

Re: It's not what you know, it's who you know.Worked for me. I have a friend whose dad is part of the GMC managed to sort me out with some work experience. That also doesn't mean that if you don't have contacts you will not find work experience. It just means it will be a bit more difficult.(Original post by allthelove)

Re: It's not what you know, it's who you know.
It really depends on the situation. For certain jobs whether it be in a shop or in finance or in music production I believe it comes down to who you know to provide you with the opportunities. However when it involves becoming a doctor no matter how popular you are, I don't care if you are related to the Queen, if you do not have the sufficient knowledge and skills required you cannot be a doctor. You have to go through the system and become qualified like anyone else out there.
In the end, in whatever job it is, you will have to show people what you can do for the profession. If you don't have a clue about the job and only got in because of your connections, you will not last long. -

certainly have a few friends in a much better position to break into finance than me due to having influential family members in the field - so it's validated for me
