Finding a prom dress
Hey everyone,
I'm trying to find a prom dress but can't seem to find what I want after hours of online searching - anyone know of any dresses that might be similar to what I'm looking for?
I know I'm being picky, but there's got to be a dress out of the millions out there that match my needs?
I want it to be a maxi dress (but I'm quite short - 5'2") with a little bit of embellishment/glitter somewhere
Under £100
Any colour but black/brown/grey/green
Not from one of those random american stores where you have to order online/not reliable
Without a low neckline
With straps of some sort - i.e. not one without anything on shoulders
Thanks xxLast edited by SM!; 30-08-2012 at 21:10. -
Why don't you design it yourself and get it sewn from a tailor? It's cheaper, thats what I done, I wanted a long sleeved off the shoulder long prom dress, couldn't find exactly what I wanted anywhere so I bought the colour material I wanted & seperate sequins and stuff, and got it made for under £100, it came out good

Re: Finding a prom dress
Here are a few suggestions

This one is £112 but I thought I'd include it anyway:
http://m.houseoffraser.co.uk/JS+Coll...efault,pd.html
A 'petite' maxi dress (no embellishment but it would probably be a good length!)
http://m.houseoffraser.co.uk/Precis+...efault,pd.html
A pink one:

A cream tribalish one:

Another cream one:

Jane Norman seems to be a good place to try, and you could always get the dress taken up/wear big heels if it's too long
This dress doesn't have any embellishment but it's where i got my dress from and I thought the quality, service etc was really good
http://m.coast-stores.com/DEBBIE-JER...uct/2310001284
The only things I'll say about coast is that the dresses are fairly long (I'm
5"6' and needed 3.5-4" heels to wear with the dress to avoid it having to be taken up. I'm also usually an 8-10 and the size 6 was just about right, it was a tiny bit loose but nothing to worry about).
Anyway hope this helped a little

How about looking in TK maxx? My friend is quite short and she got a blue one from there and it is really nice! They also do it it pink. It was a halterneck and had jewels in a line under the bust.
good luck! -

Have you seen this website? http://www.dressesonlinesale.co.uk/w...tml?hemline=75
I know it's an order online one, but it's based in the UK. Plus there's a sale on and there are some gorgeous dresses which no one else will be wearing, most importantly.

Re: Finding a prom dress
Have you tried eBay? I know some people are a bit suspicious of it but I got a really nice Lipsy dress on there for my leaver's ball for £10. If you don't want anything someone's worn before there are a lot of things that are brand new or sold by shops through eBay.
Here's all the full length formal dresses, you can narrow it down by size... http://www.ebay.co.uk/fashion/womens...%255ELOCATION~
Under the 'buy it now' section there are a lot of different ones which are very nice, and you can tell if they are reliable based on the number in brackets next to the seller's name - this is the number of positive feedbacks they've had.
Here's a good example:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ONE-SHOULD...ht_4384wt_1037
The seller has a really high feedback score and eBay has recognised them as a top-rated seller. They say they also have a made to measure service available which could be good if you're not sure if a maxi dress would be too long for you.
Have a browse I'd definitely recommend eBay, you can get some really nice stuff.
Good luck! -
