    Funding for American Study
    Hello there.

I apologize if there's a similar thread to this, so feel free to lock/move if needed. Basically, I'm enquiring regarding whether or not a British student such as myself is eligible to any form of funding or loans toward studying in the United States. I consider myself a creative individual and would more than likely progress further over there, than in the UK.

I would appreciate any responses or answers to this question.

From what I can tell, there is financial aid available for international students, however it is limited and hard to get hold of. Also note that this is done purely on your family's financial situation. I know very little about scholarships/merit aid, but I think the situation is pretty similar.
Not certain this is true, but I believe you can get loans if you get someone in the US to co-sign or back you up in case you are unable to pay/run back to your own country without paying.

Most of this I've got from College Confidential, who have quite large finance and internaional student sections, so it might be worth a look there.

Ah, I see. Many thanks. I would have thought though that if one were to be accepted onto a course that they would be eligible for funds and grants?

I hear that these 6 schools will meet full-need, if you can get in:
    1) Amherst College
    2) Dartmouth College
    3) Harvard University
    4) Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
    5) Princeton University
    6) Yale University

And I think Williams College as well. I would double-check ofcourse.

Just a hint, private universities will 9/10 be alot more generous than public universities.

And I second the suggestion to look at College Confidential.

i believe there are a few English versions of the fullbright scholarship and the like for incredibly gifted students to study out there and some of the colleges also offer scholarships but they are few and hard to come by, if youre good at rowing or something liek that though that usually helps  unfortunatly though i dont think, as prior mentioned, there are many of them and what ones there are, are very highly contested. itd probably be easier going to a UK university and doing a year abroad at an american partner institution. i may well be very wrong though either way best of luck!

Adding to the above's list, I agree that private universities would be much more generous with their funding, provided you know where to look. I happen to know that the University of Southern California also awards much financial aid to its international students, and it has an excellent reputation as a private research institution.
