War Child (a poem)
Your face seems strange in reality’s reach;
It is a face that belongs in a frame.
If I touch you will you fall with a smash?
Is your smile forever frozen that way?
It’s on a mouth that I’ll see all my life,
See it laughing and kissing and crying.
Kiss me when I’m waking from a nightmare,
Laugh and cry because you’re here. Not dying.
I don’t remember kisses with stubble.
I don’t remember your faint father scent.
I don’t remember the crush of your hold.
I remember your absence, my lament.
Proud tales of my father: hero soldier,
Promises that you’d come home one day soon.
So I waited, Daddy, waited for you,
and I knew you were waiting for me too.Last edited by sammy-lou; 02-06-2012 at 00:40. -
Re: War Child (a poem)
Lovely, Sincere And Captivating .
A very heartfelt and poignant poem Sammy-Lou and much deeper in meaning than a poem of mere face-value of a single dimension.
Aside from a student-life (study permitting) one of my favorite hideaways is found on the paper and the dashes of wonder that I create through poetry. Always nice to see a fellow poet online on TSR.
