    Adjustment then Clearing.
If you go through Adjustement and the course that your interested in doesnt have any places available or if the university rejects you, can you still go through clearing if you ask your firm choice to release you?

Yes, you can get released from your firm choice and go into Clearing if you want. Though by the time you manage to do that, especially if you've tried using Adjustment first, you'll be at a disadvantage in Clearing because a lot of places will have gone.

but can you not ask universities to hold a place for you until you get your clearing number?

You can ask em, but they probably won't want to. They don't know if you'll actually go through with it, or if you'll change your mind and then they'll be stuck with the place weeks later.

How come weeks later?, it doesnt take too long to enter clearing and recieve a clearing number.

Because your firm will have other things to do and you won't be a priority

oh right then i may just need to be that persistent and tell them strongly to release me if it came to that. and be also persistent in telling another uni to hold a place fore me.
