Conditional Offer at UCL and GPA Issues
Hii. I have applied to UCL for this september (2012) for a MA in Artefact Studies. I am a student from California. I received an offer, stating that I would be taking an Archaeology Graduate Diploma course first for 2012, and then I would be accepted into the Artefact Studies Master's Program in 2013 granted I complete the Diploma with 65% or up.

In addition, my acceptance was under the condition that I complete my most recent studies with a GPA of 3.3 or higher. I had been taking chemistry courses and I finished with a letter grade of B which put my GPA at a 3.28. I emailed UCL stating my concerns and they said that I should send in my official transcripts to be "reassessed" and to see if they can "revise" my offer, being that they "normally" require a 3.3. Does this mean that my offer will be taken away?? I'm terrified!!! Could they really deny me because of the 0.02 point difference?

I know I had a pretty outstanding personal statement and my references were perfect. I have also been in contact with the head of admissions for a couple months now with questions and concerns, so they know that I am serious and this means a lot to me.

Do you think I could be declined??
    Thanks.

It means what it says - they will reassess and see if they can revise the offer. It may very well be that they will lower GPA requirement. Or not. To be honest, I know Chem can be tough, but 3.3 is really not too much to ask for, many programs at Oxbridge require 3.85 minimum.

So do you think I am in danger of losing my offer? Are they pretty strict in their rules, or are they flexible? I know most places would round the 3.28 up to a 3.3...

I would hope it will be ok. IF they wanted to be strict they would not tell you about reassessment possibility. But I could be wrong.

I think you still have a shot as they offered to reassess the requirement. Send them what they asked for and keep your fingers crossed...
    Good luck

I was also terrified about my GPA! I'm from Canada, and the grading system at my university (Queen's University) is always changing. It was made more confusing by the fact that I did an exchange year in the UK, where I met loads of nice Californians, by the way :P

Congrats to both of us! London is a fantastic city!

Yes, I should be moving over there in August! I am doing a Publishing MA. Artefact Studies seems really cool... haha I did my undergrad in History. When are you heading over? Will you be living in central London?

hi, My name is nupur shukla and currently i am in my last semester of engineering(B.E. electronics and communication). i applied to kings (msc electronic engineering with business management) and ucl (msc technology entrepreneurship) .i have a contional offer from both wich says i need to achieve an aggregate of at least 8/10 (cgpa) after graduation. so my problem is that when i applied i was an 8.2 and i have been an 8.1 and above in all my semesters except my 7th sem where my gpa fell to 7.84 due to extreme medical conditions i was nt able to give exams. i am working hard in this last sem(8 th) to get good marks and achieve this score but i am also scared and terrified that what if i miss out by a minor mark and my admission is gone just because i was ill for one semester. ucl and kings are my dream schools and i really want to go. will they reject me? please help .
