I walk past them and one or two of them smile and say 'Hi Ethel.' In a kinda smug way. but not nastily. My name is nothing like Ethel and only shares one letter with it.

2) one of the girls is in my psychology class so should know my name after 9 months with her

3) Every time they say it, I tell them what my name is and they go 'ok'.

Just It happens maybe once a week or so cos it's a big college so I try and avoid them. It's rather annoying but just silly.

What should I do/ would you do?

Next time address them as Agnes, Miranda and Gertrude and ask them if they wish to join you for a riveting game of bingo in the games room...

Is it wrong that i find this slightly amusing? I mean i sympathize with you its not fair for you to put
up with being called a name such as "Ethel", when its not actually your name. If its any consolation
I sometimes call my sisters "Ethereal" which may i add is an even weirder name, I just do it because i find it
quite funny and its a strange name, but they don't mind, they actually find it quite funny.
I hope it stops soon though , as it is probably highly irritating for you
