Re: GCSE History exam tuesday 12th june :(Thank you! Good luck for your exams too. I know 'that middle bit'! I have a powerpoint regarding the revolution in surgery that covers the problems of pain, infection and bloodloss and how they were tackled. If you want I can send it to you?(Original post by _hail)
Thank you!
I've covered the ancient civilisations, middle ages, renaissance pretty well. I also know vaguely about the liberal reforms and the 1848 and 75 public health acts (but should probably cover them again, as well as chadwick, snow, etc etc, who I keep revising and then forgetting) It's just the bit in the middle that I don't know! Like the whole modern surgery bit, the anaesthetics, Pasteur and Koch, Lister and Semmelweiss and all of those guys... SO MUCH
Good luck for biology

Re: GCSE History exam tuesday 12th june :(my teacher gave me a sheet and this is what it says:(Original post by dgdlalo16)
can someone help me with the structure for the 16 mark question please?
1. look at the sources that agree with the statement
-explain why and the extent of the support using information from the sources and your own knowledge
-comment on the reliability of the sources- can they be trusted? are they typical/exaggerated? explain.
2. do the exact same thing for the sources that disagree with the statement.
3. conclusion
-make a judgement overall
-do most of the sources agree with the statement and to what extent?
hope that helps

Re: GCSE History exam tuesday 12th june :(It's not a major part... I doubt it would come up as a question on its own, but it's useful to help you answer parts of other questions.(Original post by brightbulb)
I keep seeing the liberal reforms everywhere, yet I haven't been taught anything about them...
is it a big part of the course?
Basically, have you heard of Rowntree and Booth? They both did inquiries into the poor in London and York, and found pretty much the same thing- that poverty was caused by illness, old age, and low wages, rather than laziness and drunkenness as everyone had previously thought.
Also, in the early 1900s, the nation was shocked to find out that many of the men (Britain's 'heroes') who had served in the Boer War were now living in extreme poverty.
This led to increasing pressure from the public on the government to do something- also the Liberal government was scared that the public might vote for the newly formed Labour party if they didn't do anything to help the poor.
This led to the Liberal Reforms:
-Provided free school meals to school children
-School medical inspections
-Old age pensions
-Labour exchanges (which helped people find work)
-National insurance
That's it really! I think this all happened in the early 1900s. It's basically the government involving itself in public health again.
Hope that helps!
