    Edexcel - Maximising Grades
Hey guys. Right, first I just want to let you know that this year, I'm doing AS Maths and AS Further Maths. The only module I have left to do is FP2.

    My modules are: C1, C2, M1, M2, FP1, FP2.

Naturally, I want 2 A grades. C1 was 91 UMS in January and that's the only score I know yet.

C2, M1 and FP1 have all gone fine.

    M2 was really bad, and I'm predicting that I got a C.

The intention was that, AS Maths was C1, C2 and M1, with Further Maths as FP1, FP2 and M2.

My question is, can I rearrange this to something like, C1, C2 and M2 for AS Maths and FP1, FP2 and M1 for AS Further Maths?

This is so that my good M1 score can boost my chances in further maths without needing an A in FP2 as I would have if I had M2 in there.

    Thanks guys.

Any help? I'd also like to mention that my school wants to cash all of my AS grades in at the end of the year.

Basic idea is that I want to swap M2 and M1 around. With M2 used for AS Maths, and M1 used for AS Further Maths. Is this possible?

How can you do FP2 without knowledge of C3 and C4?

FP2 and FP3 require knowledge of all core modules and FP1.

With great difficulty I guess. :/

FP2 isn't possible without C3 and C4. You will understand nothing if you do this way.

no you definetely cannot swap modules around.
M1 is an AS module and M2 is for A2. I also don't understand how you can do FP without having done C3 and C4...... very odd

I know but my school does it this way, and there is nothing I can do really.

Okay thanks, this is going to be a hell of a job.

EDIT: Guys, maybe you are right. Is there anyway I can just opt out of FP2 for now? I'm in such a horrible situation, I won't know what to say to universities either who will want Further Maths for my course. Surely they would want to see an AS grade?

    I am surprised by it!

How can someone do FP2 without knowledge of all the core modules, may be you should talk about this with your school.

I could just drop FP2 for now but it's too late to take any other modules now. Which means I would only have 2 modules for further maths, and I wouldn't have an AS.

Do you believe that I could learn certain chapters of Core 3 and Core 4 before proceeding with FP2? I learn pretty quickly if that helps.

Could you perhaps help me decide what chapters to learn? I obviously don't want to do the whole thing.

As long as you keep FP1/2 with FM, I believe it is fine with swapping around the modules. However, if you hadn't done FP2, you have to keep the applied modules together if you do say, S2 and S1.

Oh I see, thanks. So can you confirm that, I could have this combination if I wanted?

    AS Maths: C1, C2, M2.

    AS Further Maths: FP1, FP2, M1.

The only reason I'm concerned is that M2 doesn't look "right" with AS Maths, so I'm not sure if it would be allowed.

People aren't being very helpful. Many schools do it this way. You yourself cannot arrange which modules go where, nor should you drop out of fp2 now. Edexcel have a process themselves where they maximise your Maths result so you get the highest possible grade in that. It will be made clear to you on results day when you get your sheet. For now don't panic, concentrate on any exams you have left (if you haven't done them all by now) and good luck

Thanks a lot, what I needed to hear really.

I'm stressing a bit, because I know I need to know differentiation especially from C3/C4, but hopefully just attempting lots of questions can help me out.

And thanks for that information, I hope Edexcel put M2 with AS Maths then.

Many schools teach FP2 before C3? Why?

I think its more of a timetabling issue than anything else. My school offers both options, you can take A level Maths in year 12 then further in year 13 or do both AS' and then both A2's just depending on what your more comfortable with.

Just to let you know you can not have M2 in your AS maths qualification.

M2 is an A2 module. You can only have M1,S1 or D1 as your applied module for As maths.

If you're still confused I recommend scanning through the specification:

    http://www.edexcel.com/migrationdocu...2%20180510.pdf

(Altenatively found with a quick google search)

Pages 7 and 16 say the same thing and are most relevant to your question, pretty just reiterate what I've said above.

    Hope this has helped.
