Re: GCSE Edexcel 1MA0H Mathematics A Higher Tieri think its because when you picked something out there less to pick from, in this case once you picked a boy the probability becomes 5/9, as one person has been picked and that person was a boy. Then when you pick a girl the probability is 4/8 as since the last probability you picked another boy so the total decreases to 8 and there are still 4 girls.(Original post by bookworm786)
Thanks, but i'm still a bit confused. Like how did you get 5/9 for picking another boy, and then 4/8 for a girl? Thanks in advance
Hope it helps

Re: GCSE Edexcel 1MA0H Mathematics A Higher TierOh right lol. I am an idiot when it comes to Maths. Thanks for your help(Original post by gdunne42)
6 boys and 4 girls
probability of picking a boy 6/10
next pick there only 5 boys and 4 girls left to pick from
probability of a boy is 5/9 probability of a girl is 4/9
etc

Re: Edexcel GCSE Mathematics 1MA0/H (New Spec Functional Skills) 11th June 2012
What type of skills do you require for these new spec exams? I think a bunch of the marks are awarded for written answers, which I hate -_-, but it is mainly the same content so shouldn't be too hard. But worried nonetheless.

Re: GCSE Edexcel 1MA0H Mathematics A Higher TierFor the second one just expand the brackets and you should get a number, meaning y can only be that value.(Original post by mia_hilton)

Re: Edexcel GCSE Mathematics 1MA0/H (New Spec Functional Skills) 11th June 2012I've attached some above, these are the best you could possibly get because they're from the locked section on the edexcel website(Original post by PureDetermination)
Haven't done a past paper yet but I'm really hoping I get a B, I ordered some practice papers as well but they won't come until the end of the week

Re: Edexcel GCSE Mathematics 1MA0/H (New Spec Functional Skills) 11th June 2012Haha funny seeing you here bro. And guess what? I redone the mock papers and got 187/200. Mans gonna breeze this exam.. Hopefully. How's your revision coming along?(Original post by ColdKant)
How's everyone feeling about the exam?
Doing the mock papers Edexcel have provided the exam is looking difficult compared to the previous format.
How does everyone feel about the functional skills questions doing the mock papers?
Do you think this will affect the grade boundaries?
(The most recent for the march 2012 paper being 158/200 for an a* - old spec) -
Re: GCSE Edexcel 1MA0H Mathematics A Higher TierHave you looked on the mark scheme? It's all there. But it's pretty simple really. For the first one , turn all of them into the same value, and you'll see which one's the best month(Original post by mia_hilton)

Re: Edexcel GCSE Mathematics 1MA0/H (New Spec Functional Skills) 11th June 2012
Btw is this Fucntional Skills the same as GCSE Maths?
Are you kidding me. 140 for A* is way too low even for a new spec. It is normally about 160-170 for A* so I would say 160ish.(Original post by LoyaaaL)
yeah the grade boundaries should be really low, and I agree with everyone saying that the new spec is hard. I was doing the old spec papers and I got A*s in most of them, but in the new spec im getting B's which is frustrating. I'm expecting atleast 140/200 for A* for the upcoming exam. -
Re: Edexcel GCSE Mathematics 1MA0/H (New Spec Functional Skills) 11th June 2012199/200(Original post by lebron_23)

Lol joke! I got 174/200 though this was done in school as a proper mock! But still good

Re: Edexcel GCSE Mathematics 1MA0/H (New Spec Functional Skills) 11th June 2012LOL those are easy.. check the papers i've attatched.. they're tough, the last questions are worth like 9 marks.. that's how our exams probably going to be(Original post by lebron_23)

Re: Edexcel GCSE Mathematics 1MA0/H (New Spec Functional Skills) 11th June 2012If you take a look at the specimen C paper i have attached and flick through it (especially the last question) I'd say if we got a paper like that the grade boundaries would easily be 70/100 for an a* similar to Aqa's grade boundaries. If they differ from the old style to much id say 140-150 is very plausible.(Original post by GreenLantern1)

Re: Edexcel GCSE Mathematics 1MA0/H (New Spec Functional Skills) 11th June 2012Haha they're not that hard. Dude, you don't realise how MUCH maths revision i've done.. It's got to the point where i don't drop marks in the old spec. But in the new ones i've done, i lose anywhere from 8-15 marks in each paper :s need to fix that up...(Original post by ColdKant)

I have attached some specimen papers straight from the locked section of the edexcel website for you guys to attempt
also a formula sheet with formulas that are not given in the exam and you are expected to know.
(Anyone looking for a challenge should attempt the last question on 1MA0H Specimen C.pdf)
do you have answers to them?
