Yeah probably, it's normally around 85-ish for an a*(Original post by TW2112)
Guys, hoping for an A*, do you think 88/100 would get me that?
(Assuming I do as well in the calculator paper)
Cheers

Re: Edexcel GCSE Mathematics 1MA0/H (New Spec Functional Skills) 11th June 2012That sounds right. It's similar to saying the sample is not representative (of most people), and it says that in the mark scheme(Original post by sophiekutie)
For 1b is it right to say that the age range is too small so they would have similar preferences (a larger age range needed)

Oh I see! ( I didn't understand what representative meant before xD(Original post by Alexx53)

Re: Edexcel GCSE Mathematics 1MA0/H (New Spec Functional Skills) 11th June 2012For (a) you would get one mark probably for showing the x = 2.081 (the 81 recurring) so i'd say 1 mark possibly.(Original post by varactas)
PLEASE HELP
a) I wrote 281/99 for the decimal...how many marks?
b) I got 7x-2/(2x+1)(2x-1)
c) I wrote 3 for the triangle
d) For the sim eq...i got x and y correctly but put them in the opposite answer box ie. x = -2
e) For the Bus...i worked out the LCM, i wrote 120...but then wrote 10:20
How many marks would I have got for each question?
Thanks, help is much appreciated!
For (b) you would get all the marks minus one as you forgot to simplify the bottom - you should have expanded the brackets out.
For (c) you would likely get 3 out of a possible 4 marks if you get a really strict examiner, but if you get a lenient examiner, they may give you the full marks - providing your working out shows the values of x and y clearly.
For the LCM question, again, you'd likely lose a mark as you forgot to convert to hours or whatever.
Although, i wouldn't worry too much as lots of people made similar mistakes and i'd guess that the grade boundaries should be fairly low.
Hope that helped.
Oh, please bear in mind that this isn't necessarily correct - obviously -
Re: Edexcel GCSE Mathematics 1MA0/H (New Spec Functional Skills) 11th June 2012
I think grade boundaries should be 80% atleast, it is the new spec and I've heard they should be low. Plus June 11 was 162/200 for A*, so just above 80% in both papers. Nov 11 was 160/200. I really hope they are low! What do you all think?

Defo! If it isn't, then well... I'm screwed(Original post by TW2112)

Re: Edexcel GCSE Mathematics 1MA0/H (New Spec Functional Skills) 11th June 2012Definitely low, as it's the first year of a new spec. The boundaries were fairly low for the first year of the science papers, so i'm hoping they'll do the same..(Original post by tinkerbell1109)

Re: Edexcel GCSE Mathematics 1MA0/H (New Spec Functional Skills) 11th June 2012
I am quite concerned about my maths paper yesterday I did so badly. I am very worried now for tomorrows exam as it could potentially be triple as hard as the non-calculator
:'( I normally do alright in the old spec but this new spec is way to hard!!!

Re: Edexcel GCSE Mathematics 1MA0/H (New Spec Functional Skills) 11th June 2012Can't give accurate estimation of the lower end and upper ends, but if you get in the region of 110-120 your easily looking at a B and if you get in the region of 140-150 your easily looking at an A(Original post by iamhere9)
anyone have a accurate idea what a B orA is out of 200 please?
I'd say boundaries wise, it's be 50-65 for a B on both papers (so about 100 minimim give or take 5) and about 65-75/80 for an A (so about 130-155/60)Last edited by lebron_23; 12-06-2012 at 11:38. -

Using previous GB averages I'd say 124 for an A and 90 odd for a B -
Re: Edexcel GCSE Mathematics 1MA0/H (New Spec Functional Skills) 11th June 2012You're comfortably in the A* region. 82 would be an A* as would 87, obviously. Well done(Original post by Sam_1996)
According it the mark scheme I got between 82-87
Would 82 be an A and 87 be an A*?

Re: Edexcel GCSE Mathematics 1MA0/H (New Spec Functional Skills) 11th June 2012
Okay so I think the maximum I could have gotten in this paper is 84 not including all the method marks so Im gonna aim for at least 86 in the calc which would make it 170/200. Would that be a deffo A*? or should I aim higher?
A* = 80 maybe?

if you get 82+ your in with a
