    UCAS Adjustment Advice
Was helping a friend through Extra when I saw that Durham have vacancies for my course (Politics), I already have offers from Sheffield and Loughborough (Firm and Insurance respectively). However, I would love the opportunity to go to Durham come this September or next (considering re-applying).

As the course I would be applying still has vacancies - does this mean that if the vacancies are not filled, it would be open for Adjustment applicants (I assume Durham wouldn't be in clearing)?

    Re: UCAS Adjustment Advice
Firstly, the courses in Extra don't always exist. The universities have to opt out, rather than opt into Extra and Durham may not have contacted UCAS. I think it's highly unlikely that they will have places, given the oversubscription. Secondly, only 400 or so people have gained places through Adjustment in any subject at any university in the last 3 years, and those people have been largely placed on undersubscribed courses. You certainly have nothing to lose by enquiring, since you keep your existing place, but the chances are slim to virtually nil as unversities don't keep places aside for Adjustment candidates and Durham in particular will have no difficulty in filling its places with applicants who have already applied and who meet the requirements of existing offers.

The best Adjustment advice is don't rely on it. If you really want to change uni it may be better to take a year out and reapply.
