I'm asthmatic and I didn't use my preventer yesterday....
Yesterday I had a really bad sickness bug and felt so rubbish that I completely forgot to use my preventer in the morning and then I slept all, afternoon, and evening. I did spend the whole day feeling too sorry for myself to think about asthma since I had to miss my last day of sixth form and my prom

This morning I did use the preventer, the maximum amount I can take, but my chest still hurts and I'm sob. My relieverisn't helping all that much. This is the first time I've not taken it and I just wondered if it was normal to feel this way and how I can make it go away. I do also feel dizzy but I think that's more to do with losing a stone in weight in one day!
Thanks

Re: I'm asthmatic and I didn't use my preventer yesterday....I have a quick question. You lost a whole stone in one day?! That doesn't sound quite right to me, but I don't study medicine..(Original post by Anonymous)

Anywhoodles, to answer your question, no that's not normal of missing one day of taking your preventer. Heck, I've taken mine 0 times this year so far, but I'm really bad for it (it's an old habit I developed from having adverse reactions to my old preventer, the 'brown' inhaler (forgotten the name of the drug), which eventually caused enough issues with enough people that they actually withdrew the drug and prescribed me a new one.
You may be panicking a bit as you've never forgotten it yourself, but that may be part of the problem. Try to calm yourself down and take your reliever. -
Re: I'm asthmatic and I didn't use my preventer yesterday....Are you sure about that? If this is the case, go to A&E ASAP!(Original post by Anonymous)

Re: I'm asthmatic and I didn't use my preventer yesterday....
Well I weighed just under 8 last week and this morning weighed just over 7 ( I'm only just over 5 foot tall so I'm not dangerously underweight or anything!) I didn't eat much the day before either, so maybe over 2 days. I'm nearly at 7 and a half stone now as I've forced myself to eat today! I always lose loads of weight when I'm ill though so it's not that unusual.
It's more my chest I'm worried about! -
Re: I'm asthmatic and I didn't use my preventer yesterday....I am mostly impressed that your body is capable of containing half a stone of food at any one time. You should go to Guinness records! Then you can use the prize money to buy some scales that actually work properly.(Original post by Anonymous)

Re: I'm asthmatic and I didn't use my preventer yesterday....That's not what I meant. I mean that I always lose a lot of weight when I'm ill but I find it easy to put back on provided I try to eat and drink properly. My weight was just above 7 stone anyway which means at most I've put on 3 pounds today. I know it seems a lot but it always happens. My weight fluctuates weirdly anyway. On a day when I'm not ill it can be anywhere between 7 and a half and 8 stone.(Original post by Bobifier)

Please don't be facetious. I'm struggling to think straight atm. -
Re: I'm asthmatic and I didn't use my preventer yesterday....
It might be just because you're feeling unwell, but it also sounds like part of it might be just you panicking. It won't do any harm to miss it once or twice. Just take the next dose when you remember it.

I'm terrible at remembering my preventative inhaler, I'm always forgetting it and after a few weeks of being ridiculously lazy I do notice I start to feel awful, but once or twice doesn't do anything at all. I now keep it right by my bed though because that's the only way I stick to it.
