Films that taught you a lesson.
Whether you think cinema died with Hitchcock or only got good once Michael Bay started blowing up helicopters, this is the place where moving pictures are discussed.

Re: Films that taught you a lesson.Could be wrong, but I think he meant physically - if you believed Schindler's List to be 100% accurate, the Holocaust was undertaken in a country undergoing a permanent night.(Original post by MrCarmady)
quite sad that 11+ millions dead does not qualify as a dark project without a film to illuminate the situation. and as far as films about the holocaust go, schindler's list is not very effective at bringing that message across, since it concentrates on an appealing, uplifting part of the whole thing. night and fog, which is like 35 mins long, is much better at showing the true nature of the event.
Restless Natives taught me that highway robbery is a fun way to pass a summer, and the consequence is you become a local hero. -

Some men can't be reasoned with. Some men just want to watch the world burn - Alfred from The Dark Knight.

Team america taught me that you need a montage. -
Re: Films that taught you a lesson. That was a great line but a tad too long on the second part. It doesn't flow well if you know what I'm trying to say.(Original post by That Bearded Man)

V for vendetta
I watched it when I was very naïve I think and it showed me the importance to always look past the distartions that are presented to you by leaders.. On later watchings it has showed me the importance of resilience and about loyalty it also made me grapple with the issue of whether the means justify the ends and the issue of freedom and what it encompasses...
Watchmen also delievered all those lessons and it also really taught me the extent of greyness in society when it comes to various issues -

The Pursuit of Happyness - no matter how tough the going gets, it won't last for long so as long as you are resilient and determined.
Letters from Iwo Jima - though the Japanese army were the evil forces, they also have that sentimental side of their story that we can relate to just like any other human being. That, not all Japanese soldiers wanted war but were forced to take up arms because they had no choice but to obey their authority.
The Law-Abiding Citizen - it depicts the central character (a lawyer) acquitting the murderer of a family man's daughter and wife of half of the charges in order to maintain a high conviction rate, which goes to show how the law is blind and thus can lead to unforeseen consequences.
