And the Americans say they're not stupid....
That was a well thought out and insightful comment.

I guess it's just confirmation from the parent that they need, because otherwise it's just 'Dear ..., ... was not in school yesterday because ... has a stomach bug/flu/etc.' and it's not really that important which illness it is unless it's long-term, in which case you usually need a doctor's note for them to think you're not just slacking off.
Well, that was their opinion as well. It was none of the school's business why I was absent, just that my parents were aware I was.

If the teachers had met his mum it's not surprising they accepted it just looking at her.

They always do. Especially when they always keep making annoying stories about that Imogen Thomas girl riding a bike in her bikini, the one who's only famous because of who she had an affair with...

I did have quite a lot of teachers like that actually. Mostly during R.E in Year 10, a time when my lessons were taught by a bunch of cover teachers who didn't really care about what we did in class. There was this one Welsh woman who instead of teaching our lessons, spent an hour complaining to the class that everyone though she was Polish because of her accent! (o_0) But most of them didn't bother to plan proper lessons at all. With them you could probably walk out of class or show them a poorly written excuse note and they wouldn't pay attention or care.

Had the same experience. Just really.

Lol those are always the coolest teachers, but then in the long run they **** up your education.
Yeah. I always wanted those sort of teachers during that age; but now looking back... what a waist of time really

Yeah, to be fair my work is like that too, I mean my boss asks after me to be nice, but in terms of work she doesn't really need to hear it.

To give you an idea of how much bad teachers screwed up my education, my last in a long line of awful R.E teachers didn't bother to explain the exam paper clearly. So, with 15 minutes left of the exam, an invigilator came over, looked at my paper and told me I was doing the wrong question. I had to then spend 5 minutes crossing out 3 pages of writing and the last 10 minutes of the exam writing a short rough answer in the best way that I could for the correct question. Thanks Mrs R. Thanks a lot

I wanted to put more effort with Chemistry so I took down notes from the text books and summarized them in point format so that I could articulate myself better for the subject. Then, with the notes that I made which I'm not mistaken were about 3-4 pages of effort and hard work, I went to the Chemistry teacher to ask if I was jotting down the correct things. She looked just for 0.01 sec and she said there's no need for the notes - she could at least say something or at least tell me what I should do, because after all, she's a teacher (?) and her job is to teach and guide (?) But she didn't...

    I got a C for Chemistry.

My R.E teacher's system was to give out sheets and textbooks, vaguely try and explain stuff while people occasionally made fun of her because she was so crap, then try and put as many people's names on the board as possible and send them all out. No one listened to her though, and she just didn't bother. Everyone would basically do nothing and muck around all lesson. Also, she was apparently a homophobe: she randomly turned to a student out of the blue and said to them "God hates gays"

Why is this even in the news?
    Sees that it's the Mail.
    Ah... That's why.

Why are the almost all of the news stories posted on TSR from the Mail, despite about most of people here claiming to hate it as a news provider?

Perhaps to laugh at the Daily Mail's poor excuse for journalism?

I don't get why everyone's saying how smart he is, it wasn't a well made note, it wasn't spelled correctly and it's not like he's the first kid to try and forge a note to get out of something. Loads of kids used to try and forge a note from their parent to get out of PE. If anything it just shows that the teachers were either idiots, or were worried that if the note was real they'd be sued for not believing him :P

    I agree.

The teacher was clearly either very stupid or lazy. Does this mean they could even hire a stray dog off the street to teach a class and no one would be fazed at all?

Yeah you do get this ass teachers who basically cba to check things up and say ok to every kid who wants to get out of something. But that was too much. It looks like a 6 year old wrote it coz it was!! Blatantly the teacher who dismissed him was THICK or COULD NOT BE BOTHERED.

If she cba, shes an idiot...the poor dude is only 6. Thank God he got home safely!

If you read the article, the teacher actually didn't buy it, she sent him to the school secretary who just let him go.

Then the secretary should've either sent him back to the teacher or call one of his parents to come and get him. She shouldn't have just let a 6 year old wander out of school by himself :/

I forged a note at that age but explaining why I hadn't done my reading. My teacher accepted it.

I had a primary school PE teacher who once almost didn't accept a note that was actually written by my mum because I was sitting out PE due to only just getting the cast off my broken arm (which he knew because he taught the lesson that the arm got broken in!). What he said to me was 'Wouldn't your mum have joined up handwriting?' and I just said 'No adult I know writes in joined up handwriting, I don't know why they even teach it to us. Anyway, my mum's dyslexic so she never learned joined up handwriting anyway' and then another teacher came over and told him to stop being stupid
While it is equally as stupid that the secretary accepted this, imagine if it had actually been a genuine note?
As someone else has said above though, they should have rung the emergency contact!
