US Unemployment Rate Rises To 8.2% As Only 69,000 Jobs Are Added
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-505123_1...weak-recovery/
US Unemployment rate rose to 8.2% this month with a dismal 69,000 jobs added.
The economic data sent the dow crashing nearly 300 points today.
Its worrying because its supposed to be the amongst strongest time of the year for hiring.
Maybe the US election will be closer than we think? I mean Obama's favourite but with unemployment hovering around 8-9% and sub-50 approval ratings, the Republicans ought to have a chance.
But I have always said politics is more about style than substance these days. He'll do his earth shattering speeches again in september and the whole world will love him once again. Everybody will be in tears at this "magnificant" man. -
Re: US Unemployment Rate Rises To 8.2% As Only 69,000 Jobs Are AddedSo basically it backs up what I was saying politics is more about style than substance. Which is good and bad for the democrats because they have Obama for potentially another 4 years in that case but after that they have nobody ala like Labour after Blair. Infact its the republicans who have the potential charasmatic candidates in Rubio/Brown/Christie etc for 2016. Who do the dems have Elizabeth Warren?? Clinton will be too old.(Original post by Joinedup)
Single termers usually run into someone charismatic with an infallible popular touch... A Reagan or A Clinton.
Just sayin -

I think i'll go for Obama
Besides, even though the job figures are disappointing, can you tell me when the last negative quarter was? -
Re: US Unemployment Rate Rises To 8.2% As Only 69,000 Jobs Are AddedThis is the same Romney who at one point was behind such apple store geniuses as Herman Cain and Rick "don't google me" Santorum right?(Original post by Made in the USA)
If Obama gets elected again it will be the greatest miracle since the creation of the universe. The only question is how much of a landslide Romney will win by -

Here's why
1 Polls of registered voters don't matter, only polls of LIKELY voters matter. Rasmussen is the only pollster that I know that polls likely voters and in these polls Obama is getting trounced
2 Making matters worse for Obama, the undecided votes in these types of elections always break for the challenger.
These two factors put Obama behind by ten points. The last time a president lost by ten points was carter in 1980. And we all know how that turned out. One of the biggest landslide victories in US historyLast edited by Made in the USA; 06-06-2012 at 21:41. -
Re: US Unemployment Rate Rises To 8.2% As Only 69,000 Jobs Are Added
Employment rates are dodgy with the way they are measured with part time and stop gap jobs. Actual rate is probably higher. The general employment trend in the US in unemployment is falling. I'm not a huge Obama fan, but I'm certainly not a Romney fan.

Re: US Unemployment Rate Rises To 8.2% As Only 69,000 Jobs Are AddedOK give me odds on an Obama victory, I would like to place a bet with you.(Original post by Made in the USA)

Re: US Unemployment Rate Rises To 8.2% As Only 69,000 Jobs Are Added
The economy is not a vote winner for the Republicans or Romney. Sure he might argue that tax cuts for the rich yadayada but he's not got a plan to get Americans back in to work.
Also I'm sure the Conservatives will go into the 2015 election here secure in the line that "we've only been here 5 years.....it will take us MUCH longer than that to sort out the mess Labour caused", and Obama can use that after inheriting the worst economic position since the Great Depression thanks to 8 years of a Republican in the White House. -
Re: US Unemployment Rate Rises To 8.2% As Only 69,000 Jobs Are AddedIntrade has Obama at 52 to win vs Romney at 43. And any methodology that tries to predict based on a "likely voter" is already making too many assumptions to be accurate. Almost every betting agency is offering Obama at less than 1/1 and has Romney above this, so with Obama not even getting his campaign on the way yet he's way likelier to win. Romney's already looked like he's out of touch with the economy, at least Bush ran on the premise of "you can have a beer with me", what does Romney have?(Original post by Made in the USA)

Re: US Unemployment Rate Rises To 8.2% As Only 69,000 Jobs Are AddedIf you have to choose between a poll of likely voters and a poll of registered voters, only a complete idiot would think registered voters is more accurate. We have never had anything even approaching 100% turnout, so what's the point of these polls of registered voters?(Original post by ish90an)

I can't believe that you used an online betting site to substantiate your argument. On Intrade Ron Paul still has a 2.1 percent chance of being elected president this year, Hillary Clinton has a 2.8 percent chance. And Intrade pegs the chance of NASA announcing the discovery of extraterrestrial life sometime this year at 4.3 percent. -
Re: US Unemployment Rate Rises To 8.2% As Only 69,000 Jobs Are AddedDwayne Hicks already has a bet with me for 100 USD. Why don't you sit tight a few months and see how things progress and then decide if you still want ot risk your money?(Original post by MagicNMedicine)
OK give me odds on an Obama victory, I would like to place a bet with you.
I think you would be playing a dangerous game betting on an election in a country you don't live in. The news you get from the BBC is that Obama is perfect and everything he does is wonderful and the republicans are satan. In the BBC's fantasy world, Obama would win against anyone. Unfortunately reality is quite different than how those clowns present things to you. Obama will lose. -
Re: US Unemployment Rate Rises To 8.2% As Only 69,000 Jobs Are AddedSo what odds would you give me on an Obama victory right now, even if I wasn't going to make a bet...?(Original post by Made in the USA)

Re: US Unemployment Rate Rises To 8.2% As Only 69,000 Jobs Are AddedFunny how even the Rasmusen (a polling company with a track record of republican bias....) likely voter poll states today that the race is neck and neck....(Original post by Made in the USA)

Re: US Unemployment Rate Rises To 8.2% As Only 69,000 Jobs Are AddedWhat makes you think we use only the BBC as our media source? Personally I use plenty of different media sources, including all the main broadsheets, the Economist and the Huffington.(Original post by Made in the USA)

And even if we did, why is this worse than using a single US media outlet? I can't think of a single US media outlet that's particular unbiased either way. -

Yeah, you seek out different sources, but you are a news junkie. BBC is the most watched news channel in UK, that goes without saying. The US media outlets are not coercively funded so they can be as biased as they want. I don't have to watch them or pay for them if I don't want to.(Original post by Captain Crash)
