    Okay, thanks for the explanations. But I am kind of confused about this MCQ which involves the work done on/by a gas concept:

    Here, the piston is being pushed inwards so the gas is being compressed.. so work is being done on the gas right? But the answer is B, not A, according to the mark scheme I have. Is it a misprint or am I misunderstanding something in the question?

    You've misread the question.
    If you heat a gas at constant pressure it will expand.
    It expands against the external applied pressure.
    The gas expands, so it must be work done by the gas.

    Yeah, didn't read the heated part. I have a bad habit of just looking at the diagram and then answering the question than reading the question entirely.

    How would the displacement-time graph look like if the velocity-time graph of it is a positive sine wave?

    It should look like a negative cos wave. Velocity is rate of change of displacement, and \dfrac{d}{dt}(-\cos(t)) = \sin(t)

    Thanks. There was an MCQ related to that in our exam and I wasn't so sure, but I guess I got it right.
