Re: When are the football "purists" going to shut up?They did - Off my head I remember one or two for Sanchez, another one for Fabregas, Messi had a couple etc.(Original post by barnetbuzzzz)
They didn't miss that many, shot on target =/= clear cut chance.
What about Inter beating Barca in the 2011 semi final?
That was a flat out schooling on Inter's part with Busquets's dive and Motta's subsequent red card leading to Inter humiliating Barca for the rest of the game as Inter's defence completely nulified Barca's attack. Barca's diving came back to haunt them. Had Motta still been on the pitch the game would have been more open and Barca would probably have won.
Tbh I didn't set up the thread with the intention of promoting Chelsea, I was just attacking the refusal by Barca/Spain fans to admit that other teams can beat them by playing with a contrasting style.
If you just wanted to highlight that, why not just go straight for the Inter Milan bit, rather than making yourself look like a fool by suggesting Chelsea actually worked Barcelona out? -
Youre an idiot. You expect Barca to long ball it to Messi in a crowded box?(Original post by barnetbuzzzz)
Why didn't Barca use the long ball more then? Why didn't they speed up the pace of play?
Calling me a moron doesn't change the fact that over the course of two legs, Chelsea scored 3 goals and Barca scored 2. Therefore, Chelsea won. Deal with it.
And teams havent figured out how to counter possession football. Barca's dominance was broken because they were ravaged with injuries to an already small squad, in the first few months of the season they were complacent and Real stepped up there game. Real only beat Barca once last season, Barca beat Real 3 times.

Re: When are the football "purists" going to shut up?They should sign a couple of taller players then. Filling your team up with midgets is a clear flaw.(Original post by CB91)

Re: When are the football "purists" going to shut up?How did I know it'd be a Chelsea fan who wrote this...
If the same fixtures came out again, same players, ext. 99/100 times Chelsea would not have won the Champions League.
Chelsea rode their luck, and milked it for all it was worth.
And you'll soon change your tune, now Chelsea are buying players that play "Sexy" football... -
Re: When are the football "purists" going to shut up?What happened last time Chelsea played Barca? The same tactics were used to great avail. It worked again because Barca don't have a plan B. Sure Barca missed some great chances (tbh shots on target in the 2nd leg was 5 compared to Chelsea's 3), but Chelsea played in a way that they knew would increase their chances of winning. Overall head to head record stands at Chelsea 3, Barca 2, Draws 5 and it's certainly not purely down to luck.(Original post by Alofleicester)
That Chelsea got through was not due to their own tactics, but that Barcelona's forwards had an off day.
Please stop with this worked them out bull****, because they haven't. Barcelona dominated and Chelsea got lucky - end of story. -
Re: When are the football "purists" going to shut up?Two for Sanchez, two for Fabregas, one for Xavi after he was slipped through by Messi, Adriano hit post, Puyol missed a corner, Messi right in to the first minute or so of 2nd leg. Busquets blazed over the bar in each leg. There were Numerous chances.(Original post by Alofleicester)

Re: When are the football "purists" going to shut up?Listen here. Chelscheat never deserved that title. They should be sacked by UEFA for their abysmal style of play. What kind of team lifts a trophy by having one shot on goal? only the Drench Blue of Chelscheat would do such a thing.(Original post by johnharris19944)

John Terry even got into his kit to lift the metal. -

Re: When are the football "purists" going to shut up?
In a final, we could recreate the footballing version of The Alamo, have 20% possession, get pounded repeatedly by wave after wave of opposition attack, have them hit the woodwork a dozen times. None of it would matter to me so long as we get that winning goal.
It can go in off their keepers backside after our first attack in the 93rd minute, following 4 deflections from a 30 yard speculative effort that was initially going out for a throw in before rebounding back off the post, for all I would care.
Win a trophy and I'd be doing back flips in the stands. It doesn't matter how you do it. -
Re: When are the football "purists" going to shut up?
Wouldn't mind the outrage so much if it weren't for the debacle of 2009. I'd happily swap trophies with Barca - 2012 for 2009. Being denied four penalties is a bit worse than your opponents being profligate in front of goal. Chelsea have tried to play attractive football in the past, through the appointment of Scolari, but it wasn't paying off so it's not like the club don't care for aesthetics.
Edit: Looks like johnharris19944 is one super bitter lemon, add Bryci to that who doesn't understand simple economics either. Negged for truth.

Re: When are the football "purists" going to shut up?
Chelsea were not "lucky", for those immature faggots still going on about it.
Showing strength in front of your own goal is as important in football as showing strength in the middle and other end of the pitch. Chelsea proved that to us once again by humiliating a stronger Barcelona side and a favoured Bayern team. The fact that we were able to hold on and swing our own blows when we had the chances made us worthy contenders for the Champions League, and triumph we did. It's hardly "luck" when you defend well and use your chances wisely. Think again.
and we must not overlook this, the 2009 incident. surely that was the icing on the cake in knocking out Barcelona.(Original post by NDGAARONDI)

Strength in front of your own goal? What ****ing strength? Like many have already said a thousand times, Chelsea's defending was not that great. If it was, then Barca wouldn't have had so many chances.
How the **** did you humiliate either team? Both teams dominated you and showed you up for the pathetic excuse of a club you are. A team as rich as Chelsea shouldn't need to park the bus, that's what weak teams do. You completely fluked the CL and it will never happen again so enjoy it while you can. -

Re: When are the football "purists" going to shut up?don't even try to tell me Cahill didn't put on an unbelievable performance. and until the red card, Terry was solid as ever, and Ashley Cole was on fire in the final. we were weak in the middle and couldn't put up an offensive fight, hence the number of chances Barcelona had; but if it wasn't for almost flawless defending, we would've been brushed aside just like Manu were by the Catalans in previous seasons.(Original post by Jordan_1)
Chelsea fans really are the inbreds of the football world aren't they?

Bayern hardly dominated, it was a dull game on the whole, and considering they were the great favorites, we were missing out on our captain and they were playing at home, they were ****. after the equalizer, the momentum was deffo in our favour. and as far as parking the bus goes, you make me laugh. look at all the teams that fell to Barcelona in the last five years, and remind them about how they played. until someone fairly outplays Barcelona's beautiful tiki-taka football, 'parking the bus' is the only proven method of beating them (as proven by none other than Chelsea Football Club, thank you). when you have a semifinal draw against Barcelona, you're not playing for applause and to garner higher ratings on the next FIFA game console release, but to defend like animals. but whatever mate, we won the greatest footballing honour in club football this season, no biggie

You are a funny guy -
Re: When are the football "purists" going to shut up?Ha. Good way to put it. It was more hmm.. bunch up as tightly as you can in the penalty area so no one can get a shot away. It was effective I have to say but Barca did still score two goals and get a penalty. It was pure luck that Chelsea got through, honestly.(Original post by barnetbuzzzz)
Chelsea's tight defence
Torres's goal was the kind of goal a team concedes when they are putting everything they can into attacking.. Ryan Babel vs Arsenal per say.
Football is a game of slim margins. Had Ramires not scored that goal before half time.. You probably wouldn't have won the CL. Then again who knows.
All I know is Chelsea don't aim to play that way. It isn't desirable. It isn't the way that will give Chelsea dominance. It won't win you a league. Chelsea just conceded that Barcelona were far superior in every area of the pitch so played the only way they knew how to stop Barca and it worked. Chelsea played not to lose. You do this when you're inferior. Chelsea won't be playing that way next season. No 'big' team aims to play this way. Maybe they don't all play sooo possession-based like Barcelona but they do play football. On the ground. On the front fooot. Most of the time.
Barcelona are the ones who've won 15 trophies in 4 years. Including two CL's. Both won in style and not scoffed at like Chelsea's win. Again not knocking it but the OP is acting like Chelsea's win proves football purist's wrong when it doesn't. It proves that you need luck in football, sometimes a helluva lot! (I mean what are the chances Bayern have about 20 corners in the 90 minutes and create nothing while Chelsea have one corner during extra time and score from it?.. It was baffling.. oh and have the likes of Messi and Robben and Schwiensteiger missing penalties in the space of two games!!)Last edited by benkopite; 07-06-2012 at 02:55. -
Re: When are the football "purists" going to shut up?My OP wasn't just about Chelsea though, it was a general attack on Barca/Spain believing they have a divine right to win everything.(Original post by benkopite)

If you want a better example of how to nullify that style that relies less on luck, see Inter v Barca (CL 2011) and USA v Spain (2009 Confederations Cup) -
Re: When are the football "purists" going to shut up?Englerland !!! So great lol better than spain loooooooool 0-0 tragic loss on penalties again. ur talking about spanish midgets when theyve got further than England loool how clueless about football you are!!!(Original post by barnetbuzzzz)
Chelsea 3-2 Barcelona (agg)
England 1-0 Spain
So after another win for England where they failed to dominate possession, the usual idiots are crawling out of the woodwork whining on about how amazing Xavi/Iniesta are and how rubbish English players are in comparison. This is all very well but do these guys ever actually look at the results of matches, which is ultimately all that matters?
It doesn't matter what your pass completion or possession is like, the winner of a match is the team that scores the most goals and the Spanish midgets with an aversion to shooting towards goal have been beaten by the English twice this season.
When you manage to get the ball in the net more times than us, come back and gloat. Until then STFU and admit that we know how to win matches and you don't.
