There's not point fooling around, half of our population are complete morons going around either stabbing, acting like fools, getting pregnant or sitting on their backsides all day wanting to win games shows to earn a living. If they do want a job its to be a footballer or popstar- not something proper/worthwhile to society.

How do we fix the whole social/cultural problem?

Do we stop immigration because its diluting what the British way is?

Do we get extremely tough on benefits? No more of this sympathy crap, if you have more kids whilst on benefits they get taken away from you.

Do we make the unemployed do USEFUL training courses?

Could we fully subsidise GCSE Maths and English courses at night school to improve employability?

Stop the political correctness and positive discrimination?

Make sure benefits pay less than the lowest earners?

Celebrate success like Americans do and not tell people they cant aspire to their dreams.

Stop celebrating celebrity culture and instead encourage people to aspire to jobs like nurses, teachers, engineers, doctors, carpenters, builders etc

(bet this was a shock for those of you who think im right wing!)

I wonder if England has always been full of scum like that, but just had a very good top-tier leadership and manipulated the commoners into working very well for them.

Re: How do we fix Britain to be as great as it used to be?
I had the idea that in order to control our over crowded population, if you want to receive child benefits for your kids, then you shouldn't receive anything more per child after your second child.

It seems that these days, people are just having more children to get more money from the government.

I obviously wouldn't impose this on existing large families, but if you want a large family in the future, then you must provide for them yourself. I don't believe it is fair to expect the state to pay for that.

And LIVING benefits should only be paid to those who really cannot work. The idea is that benefits were supposed to be a safety net, not a way of life.

FINALLY, over the past few decades, a stigma has been created in this country where the only 'socially acceptable' jobs are those within the service industry, and manufacturing jobs have been stigmatised. But we forget that nearly 40% of our labour force were trained in Manufacturing, and were pretty damn good at it too! But now because of the Thatcher government and then the Blair gov, we have created an economy that is overly concentrated on services. We need to restructure and retrain so that Britain can be a net world exporter again, whilst keeping many more people in work.

This country has definitely lost it's way after year's of mis-management. Everyone could see it, but times were too good to even bother saying anything. And now look at the mess we're in!

Surely the top two contradict each other. The only way the people in question are able to reach the "American" level of success by which I assume you mean rich in terms of material possession, is to win the lottery/ game shows. By idealising being extremely rich, you diminish the importance of the every day professions, and exaggerate the importance of celebrity culture, which is often considered success in the American form.

Well I remember in the 2010 general election one of David Cameron's slogans was that the Conservatives were going to "Fix Broken Britain".

How is that going, is Britain less broken than it was when he became PM? I'm sure that will be a question that he gets asked in the next election.

Britain isn't that bad. It just seems it's worse than it used to because media is more advanced and so these things can't be covered up as much.

Britain has always been 'diluted' the Romans, Vikings, Anglo Saxons weren't originally British you know? It's highly unlikely you'll find someone with 'pure' British heritage.

Harsher benefits? You think letting people starve to death and more homelessness will make Britain look better?

Benefits are already worth less than the minimum wage.

I'd love to stop celebrity culture and have people with real jobs be more celebrated but that's something out of our control.

Would the neggers care to explain what was wrong with this post?

Good to see that you've developed a well thought-out policy response to a well-defined set of problems.

'Ours (our army) is composed of the scum of the earth - the mere scum of the earth.'
-Wellington. And the British army, while not conscripted, was a fairly good representation of British society. A few officers to make it look fancy, but most of the people were similar in many respects to those that you're angry with today. You're making that typical assumption that the past is always better.

Quite, I think back in the day (1800s) there were jobs for these type of people (sailors spring to mind) but nowadays there just isn't anything for them to do..... so now they just cause trouble socially.

In the past there was a use for "less skilled" people, but the economy we have today, there just isnt anything for them unless they magically become well qualified.

Why do some people feel it's necessary to go backwards in order to progress? I can't think of a period in history where Britain was 'great' all round - society has always had ills, from the top to the bottom. We need to move forwards, not backwards.

No dreams does not mean materialistic wealth. I think there is too much materialistic desire.

We both know the damage was not going to get fixed in 5 years.

The budget cuts are to ensure we can keep our AAA credit rating and hence we dont become bankrupt!

No austerity cuts, no Government borrowing and thus less money for all the socialists to spend on pointless rubbish.

People should not be having kids whilst on benefits.

Teenagers should not be having children unless they have the money to support them.

A single mum can expect to receive 19.5k in benefits (I worked it out on a website last night)....... £20k for doing NOTHING except getting pregnant.

We need to set a precedent for the future.

If what you are saying is correct, unemployment would be 50%.

Is it? No. Latest figures put it at 8.2%. Fail.
