For the past year I keep having these episodes of my eyes rolling upwards involuntarily. I had to go home from a party last night because of it. When it happens I can't look downwards, my eyes are always looking towards the sky. I don't know why this is happening; does anybody know how i can stop it? Could it be a side effect of the psychiatric medication i'm taking?

That sounds like it could be a side-effect of antipsychotic medication - but it's impossible to tell for sure over the internet and I'm still a medical student not a qualified doctor. I suggest you go and see your GP as soon as you can as the dose you're taking may need adjusting. If it happens again in the meantime, go to A&E and they should be able to give you a drug to sort it out.

When you say psychiatric medication, are you taking antipsychotics perchance?

Yes, I'm taking 20mg of olanzapine I hate it so much.

20mg is a very high dose.

You should tell your psychiatrist and perhaps ask to switch to another antipsychotic. I got it on amisulpride but since switching to quetiapine I haven't experienced it (although my psychiatrist didn't believe me about the eye thing, I switched because the drug wasn't working anymore). Or if the drug is helping perhaps just lowering the dose might get rid of it.

I experienced it for months and I didn't find anything that would reset my eyes.
