    Why, in diagram 2, is there no 'weight' force acting on the man?

    He's in deep space- there's no gravity so even though he has mass there's no weight. (At least, gravity from local objects will be negligable.)

    By the way, I found the position of the weight arrow in diagram 1 amusing.

    Its in deep space - so no grav fields around.
