I have been offered a £ 1,400/month job.should i take it or not?
Hi
I firstvolle salute your wise advices and can count on you to help me decide on this.
I am at university and this is my first year.Almost finished my exams and got a response from a company offering me a £ 1,400/month job.I mean this is an office job,not the engineering degree I am after.I speak french and english,so I am the perfect candidate for the position.
Now, my dilemma is that I just started university for an engineering degree.Wonder should I take it or just carry on with the degree.I badly need your hhelp.I know this job pays well and there is guaranty for pension all that.I can start building my life but on the other hand,I really want to get a degree means finish my education.
Would you take the job or study,if that was you?
Thank you -

I can understand that the salary may look appealing, but I suggest you finish your degree first. What will happen if in a couple of years you get fired?Yes you 'll have some work experience but no qualifications. As an engineer, or any other related field 1,400+ will be your first salary and you'll have a career afterwards

Depends if you think your prospects after completing your degree will exceed those that will come from taking this job. Also you will be missing out on the "uni life"(not for everyone, mind.) and will be going straight into work. Also weigh up the enjoyment factors of each job etc.

Re: I have been offered a £ 1,400/month job.should i take it or not?Don't aim to get a well paid job. Aim to get a job you'll love and enjoy doing. And if the job you love doing is well paid, then thats a bonus.(Original post by BONBONCHOCO)

Do you want to have an office job?
Id say stick with the degree. -
Re: I have been offered a £ 1,400/month job.should i take it or not?
What's the salary progression like? And what about the training and career progression? And is it in a job you can see yourself doing, that you'd enjoy?
£1400 a month might seem like a lot of money at the moment but that's less than what many people in my course, also engineering, are getting on their internships.
If you graduate from an engineering degree with relevant experience and a good CV it's quite likely that your first wage will be much more than £1400 a month.
Don't be tempted by money in the short term; think of the long term. -
Re: I have been offered a £ 1,400/month job.should i take it or not?
Stick with the degree. £16-17k a year is definitely not worth leaving an engineering course for. If you want money, look for summer internships, they'll be paying similar amounts and are actually related to your degree. Also, bare in mind that £1400 a month becomes £1255 a month after tax.

Are you sure you speak English?
please let me know if I do not speak english. As long as people understand what I have to say,I do not say a problem, don't you? -

With spelling and punctuation like that? You might want to prolong your education for a while.

If you think you'll be happy with your life and career prospects by taking the job, then by all means take it. But I think you should finish your degree- the employer will understand, and you know that you will be able to find work like that should you have trouble finding a job related to your degree once you have it.

Re: I have been offered a £ 1,400/month job.should i take it or not?Really? I'm a sponsored student and I'm getting much less than that. £1400/month seems insane!(Original post by Smack)

Re: I have been offered a £ 1,400/month job.should i take it or not?
You do have a third option which nobody seems to have mentioned. Take the job and finish your degree part time. Anyway I have no idea which is best for you, just thought you should remember to consider that option if you haven't already, good luck whatever you decide.
