How does he get this body is it down to genes or workouts?
ok so im trying to lose a bit of weight, not a lot as im toned and physically active anyway but I dont really have muscle definition. I go to a gym and theres a 17 year old lad and although im female i kind of admire his body lol and want his muscle definition. You guys will probably be like oh he's skinny or whatever but I wonder how he gets this look as the average guy doesnt look like this. Is it just natural/lucky genes or is this a result of working out? I know that he runs he does middle distance, I dont see him doing much weights maybe occasionally but Im female and a lot older than him would it be possible for me to get this kind of definition? Not just for looks but to be stronger/improve at sports too.

What difference does it make? If you don't look like you want to now, then clearly you're gonna need to add some exercise/diet to your genetics. Any way, men and women are very different, and you will really struggle to get that kind of muscle definition, regardless of what you do.

Genetics does play it's role but a large amount is diet. The best exercise program with a bad diet won't yield results. Being toned to any degree is about relative amounts of body fat and muscle, increasing muscle and decreasing fat yields the defined and toned look, one without the other doesn't.

You would be able to acheive a comparable body for your own health and self-image yes though women have a greater basal level of required body fat and lower levels of hormones needed for muscle building but given that a number of women sport the athletic look yes you would.

But you can tone up and promote healthy muscle growth through good diet

Dude was probably lean to begin with and may have just started to dabble in lifting. He's a tiny bit over average size with lower body fat. Looks fairly plain, if I'm honest.

We can't make an accurate assumption without knowing him.

No guy is 'naturally' like that.

Looks like he does a lot of benching and curling. Probs a few shrugs. He's also at a low %bf.

Keep in mind that it is much harder for females to build muscle and keep low bf.

Also his skin is groce. Tell him to use suncream.

Start doing heavy compound lifts combined with some HIIT cardio. Eat clean. The stickys in the fitness forum are a good place to start.

Genetics play a large role , but if you're not stimulating the muscles in workouts it wont happen either.

There are two different types of muscle, actual muscle (long strand toned muscle - probs what he's got as it goes with low body fat %) and 'water' muscle (Where the muscles gain water to look bigger, but they can also look puffy and not defined at all)

To get like that id say try to get a low bodyfat percentage (3-5%) and get focussed on reps and not necessarily weights, and building muscle but maintaining performance muscle

    Hope this helps!

I think I'd be pretty unhappy with my body if women wanted to look like me.

3-5% body fat? Are you kidding? Unless you're a competitive bodybuilder that low is way beyond necessary.

Edit: And the fact that she's a female, they have naturally higher body fat. It's pretty much impossible for a women to get down to those levels.

Well if he's a middle distant runner he is obviously lean from all the calories he is burning. He will be doing loads of HIIT at the moment.
