Again depends, upto a point dress sizes are as useless as BMI in implying "fat".
If it's not fat, then what is it? Unlikely to be muscle in girls.
Large breasts are a fair excuse but 90% of the time a size 16 girl is fat.

Really depends on the body shape. Yes, a size 16, 5ft7 girl will look fat with a large stomach and hidden waist, but on the other hand, with a flat(ter) stomach, defined waist large hips and bust, she will look more in proportion and 'curvy' rather than plain fat.
Agree. But as the OP said, it definitely depends on height too. I could be any shape in the world, and at a 16 I would be fat, because I'm only 5'2.

To be honest, it's really hard to tell without a picture as clothes size means very little because not only do they vary between stores, some people need bigger sizes to account for boobs and hips (or arms in my case - can't ever seem get mine in a size 8 shirt ).

a few days ago and it's now full of butthurt tubby girls insisting that size 16 isn't fat and that good-looking guys are just as likely to go for them as they are for girls in the size 8-12 range.

Assuming that a girl is a normal height (let's say under 5' 9"), is size 16 fat?
    Fat; debatable, overweight; most definitely

I view overweight and fat as the same thing.

Think a lot of people refer to fat as being very overweight, and overweight as just being a little over what they should be?

Clothes size doesn't have any relevance to height. A 5ft size 6 has the same waist/hip measurements as a 6ft size 6. It just looks different.

Although I'd say a size 16 is generally fat.

Ok, then I would class size 16 as fat

But doesn't mean that size 16 girls are unattractive as a result.

Take from that what you want...

I'm 5 foot 2 and a size 16 and I consider myself to be fat. I'm not huge, but definitely chunky. I'm definitely not in proportion.

This is a picture of me and my younger sister. We're the same height (she's wearing heels). I'm a size 16, she's a size 6-8. She's definitely more in proportion.

    It is and it isn't.

If you are 5 foot 1, and a size 16, you might be a bit big.

If you are 5 foot 9 and a size 16, you'll be more in propotion.

If you are 5 foot 1 and a size 8, you'll be fine.

If you are 5 foot 9 and a size 8, you might be a bit too slim.

Clothes sizes are also dependant on the store, no size is the same in every store. I have a size 12 top, size 22 jeans and size 18 jeans and all fit me fine..
It's not just about height though.. I'm 5 ft 2ish and a size 12-14. I'm naturally an extreme hourglass shape. I have enormous hips, huge boobs and a tiny waist. I'd have to be skinny as a rake to even attempt size 8 jeans and even then I doubt my bones would fit into them.

If I go down to a size 10 to the extent where all size 10s will fit me (under about 8st 11) then my face goes really thin and I start to look and feel horribly ill. That's why I don't believe in bmi. It only works for the extremes and in those cases you don't really need a number to tell you you're fat.

Yes, i think if you're under 5'9" and size 16 then you're overweight. I feel quite "chunky" at size 10 tbh, damn pear shaped body.:nooo:

    Re: Is size 16 fat?
    Case study;

I'm 5'10'', size 14-16, and medically overweight (by BMI - I know it's faulty, but I'm not a body builder).

Ergo, shorter, larger people must also be overweight medically, and therefore fat. I'm sorry, but that means it's too big for most of the female population, regardless of 'body shape'.

I don't want to upset people here - I honestly know how it feels to have low self esteem - but as someone who grew up overweight I think it should be acknowledged at the very least. It's not healthy, and doesn't make you happy, and telling children it's okay not to exercise does them no good at all.

Youtube tells me that this is size 16:

I'm gonna say yes, she's fat.

Although some girls do have figures with big hips/shoulders that can make a skinny girl a size 16. Let's say that most size 16s are fat.
    That's not fat

    She looks great.

As a guy, I googled size 16 and I'd say it's just about what you'd call 'curvy'. Not fat. What's interesting is that it's probably pretty normal/unnoticeable for a guy to be that size.

If you would say that an XL for a man is "fat" then yes, a size 16 for a woman is also "fat".

Size 8-10 is what looks best on women, typically.

here comes the negs but hey ho just my opinion; some people are naturally large butskinny so they have big sizes but arent fat but personally size 16 just misses that boundary and i personally would label it fat but thats just me. Like

here thats not jsut a large skeleton; theres definitely fat to be lost to match the skeleton and be in proportion. I dont think size 16 is ever okay
