Films so bad, they’re thoroughly entertaining!
Whether you think cinema died with Hitchcock or only got good once Michael Bay started blowing up helicopters, this is the place where moving pictures are discussed.

Films so bad, they’re thoroughly entertaining!
I am aware that there are plenty of threads dedicated to listing and insulting bad films (e.g. ‘Bad movies you wish you had never watched), but I wanted to compile a comprehensive list of films, which, although objectively terrible (poor dialogue, screen-play, editing etc), work in a sort of twisted harmony to produce a thoroughly entertaining spectacle!
I host a regular bad films event, and amongst the films ‘showcased’ (okay, streamed from my PC), the attendees voted their top 3 best-worst films as:
3. No Retreat No Surrender (1986)
This is probably the best acted out of the three, and that's saying something! Jason Stillwell (Kurt McKinney), is a ‘karate’ student (despite doing some weird kung-fu-wushu in the film) and avid Bruce Lee fan boy who trains at his father’s dojo somewhere in California. Out of the blue, an Organised Crime syndicate visit the dojo and try to enrol his father into their ranks. Upon refusal, Jason’s father is beaten to near death by an 80’s-set-piece-Russian-villain played by Jean Claude Van Damme.
Father and son relocate to Seattle, where Jason is harassed by local bullies and enlists the help of the ghost of Bruce Lee (who looks nothing like Bruce Lee, they probably just paid some dude from the local takeaway) to aid him in defeating his enemies.
Merely thinking about this film fills me with joy. It’s plagued with archetypal 80’s Cold War rhetoric and hilariously bad racial archetypes (the black kid RJ, who happens to know all the other black character in the neighbourhood, and does weird raps to spazzy Michael Jackson dancing).
2. Samurai Cop (1991)
SC is the brain child of Iranian mutli-millionaire Amir Shervan, who had the vision of creating the greatest American action movie known to man!
SC stars internationally renowned mega-actor Matt Hanon, who plays All-American cop Joe something-or-other, a cop trained in the art of Bushido, A SAMURAI COP. Although, supposedly fluent in Japanese, Joe struggles pronounce the most pronounceable of Japanese surnames (“Are you Fuk... Fugee...yama?”), and when he’s not defeating Japanese crime syndicates (with guns may I add, we don’t even get to see a sword fight until the last 5 minutes of the damn film!), the scenes like to randomly cut away to him, in his speedos, rubbing his bodily fluids over a variety of non-descript blonde chicks.
1. The Room (2003, I can't believe it either!)
The king of bad movies! In terms of plotline, this film is far more boring and prosaic than the other two. It’s effectively a love story that turns sour; biatch of the century Lisa cheats on semi-zombiefied fiancé Johnny for his ‘best friend’ Mark. Its only saving grace, in terms of entertainment is Tommy Wisseau’s diabolical acting ‘ability.’ And by heavens is it worth watching for that reason alone!
Wisseau now markets The Room as a black comedy. The other cast have always maintained that it was a serious film, to showcase Wisseau's mad acting skills.
Other notable mentions, and close contenders include:
Hercules in New York
Troll 2
Shark Attack 3 Megaladon
Feel free to discuss any of your favourite 'best-worst' films, or indeed, any of the ones mentioned here! I'm always looking for new ones to 'showcase!'Last edited by El Nombre; 03-06-2012 at 23:50. -
Re: Films so bad, they’re thoroughly entertaining! An honourable mention!(Original post by wren94)
Titanic 2 :')
Aside from any Clint Eastwood or Woody Allen film, I tend to assume that any film written, directed and starring the same person will be hilariously bad. In this case, Shane Van Dyke (yes, Dick's son) has produced a very Sci-Fi channel worthy film!
Speaking of Shane Van Dyke, he has also starred in awe inspiring flicks such as: Transmorphers: Fall of Man, Paranormal Entity, and SUPER SHARK! -

WHAT A GREAT FILM! -
Re: Films so bad, they’re thoroughly entertaining!
Many films starring Charles Bronson, but particularly Death Wish 3. The best part is when his explicable love interest dies after her car crashes into oncoming traffic, blowing up into a fireball, and Bronson just shrugs his shoulders and trundles off.

Re: Films so bad, they’re thoroughly entertaining!I looked it up. I am now emotionally scarred for life. But, seriously, what better way to pay tribute to a horrendous loss of life than with a rapping dog, and a mouse uttering the line "If it wasn't for you, I'd now be in somebody's digestion."(Original post by Big Ern McCracken)
That Italian animated musical version of Titanic. If you've seen it, you know. That ****ing rapping dog still haunts my dreams.
Good suggestion here guys. I've listed a few for my bad movie nights (The Wraith and Dragon Wars look promising!)
