Hi guys,
Looking to start an MA. in September, tuition fees are £9,000. What banks would be likely to fund me? I'm currently with barclays but as far as I'm aware, they will only fund courses such as the LPC?
Thanks
So far as your tuition fees are concerned, I do not know anything about law degrees, but that price seems rather steep. I just checked my local university and their masters degrees are in my areas of specialism are £5500. I would consider looking at other universities unless it is the norm in law. -
Re: MA. Funding - £9,000 Tuition Fees, High Street Bank Funding?Law is usually very expensive, simply because lawyers make a lot of dough. The LLM at Cambridge is roughly £10,000 for UK students and £20,000 for "overseas" students. This is tuition alone, the real cost of the degree is much higher and you would have to borrow or self-fund your living expenses as well.(Original post by evantej)

Re: MA. Funding - £9,000 Tuition Fees, High Street Bank Funding?
Hi guys - sorry, the course I will hopefully be doing is MA. Human Resources (Employment Law).
As a barclays customer I had the impression that their career progression loans were only for professional/vocational courses like GDL/LPC etc... And not for general postgraduate masters courses. -
Re: MA. Funding - £9,000 Tuition Fees, High Street Bank Funding? The Career Development Loan is a specific type of loan that is offered by commercial banks at a commercial rate, but is backed by the government so there is no default risk for the bank. They explicitly exclude the GDL, presumably because that will actually pay for itself and so people can get normal loans to cover it, see more.(Original post by Rybee)

The elephant in the room is that if Barclay's don't think your masters degree is going to pay off, why do you? Remember that you pay the full rate for a Career Development Loan: the protection it gives is for the bank in case you can't afford to pay it back. Is this masters' really worth £9k + indefinite interest payments? -

I'm doing my MA Human Resource Management starting in September at Leeds and the fees are only 7000. They have an Employment Law module too. Might be something to consider? In terms of funding, a Career Development Loan would be your best bet, as others have said. Unless you take a few years out and save.
