Re: IB Lost
My school didn't give me a reading list, but it did say that it would be a good idea to start reading the English books, particularly if you're going to be doing Higher Level. As for my EE, I did it on the ideological background on the Declaration of Independence. So yeah, it can be pretty much anything.

Re: IB LostOur school gave us a reading list. And yeah your EE can be about anything basically, but relevant to a certain subject you take.(Original post by 24hoursmiles)
Hello
Just wondering, did your school give you a reading list to complete beforehand? Also what did you do your extended essay on? Can it really be on..anything?!
-
Re: IB LostIt's a good idea if you can relate it to the syllabus of a subject you're studying, so it at least looks like you're applying knowledge gained in the IB(Original post by 24hoursmiles)

Re: IB LostEnvironmental systems and societies(Original post by mimile)
what's ESS?
Mevidek: what school will you be going to?
i sort of had the same problem as you,but also a motivation problem, because if i stayed in germany i would have to take subjects that don't even really count and i just don't get the system and i don't see why i should learn stuff that doesn't count at all. so that's also why i chose the IB.

So random question, when does term start for you in September? 41 days 'til I go
Only just got my reading list through with 4 english novels and 4 history books to read, as well as 50 pages of maths questions! which is just..

Re: IB Lost
september 4th. isn't that 41 days as well? i did not even get a reading list. i didn't get anything. I would really like to prepare for that, but i can't since i did not get any further information. i'm so nervous. i just want it to start now so the first day would be over and i could start getting used to it. there's so much more to do. i still need another suit and stationary and stuff. and i need to say goodbye to my friends and family and this is all just so exciting. i can't wait, but i'm also sad. how do you think will the first day be like?
-
Re: IB Lost
I start on the 5th, so only one day later! I really dont think i'm going to get through all the reading though, there's masses! I know, im basically in the same situation! I've got the main bulk of the suit stuff just need a new skirt and another jacket, got stationary, but still trying to make plans to see everyone! ahh theres still so much! Im excited, yet a tad worried, but im sure the first week tbh is going to be quite calm and trying to make everyone feel at home and things, before the real hard work begins and stuff.
-
Re: IB Lost
sorry mixed sth up. I have to be there on the 4th but i'm starting on the 5th
so same day
about the first week. i think you're right, but i'm still so nervous about that even though i propably dont have a reason to be that nervous. so what are you doing during the holidays except for seeing your friends and family obviously?

Re: IB Lost
france is amazing.hope you have fun. i hope to finally pass the driving test for my motorcycle(failed the test a couple of days ago
) and i guess i'm going tp spend a lot of time in the horse stable and maybe i'm going to either berlin, hamburg, amsterdam or some really small village on the north sea to visit some friends. if all that doesn't work out for some reason i'll propably be working in a local adventure park. where will you be working? the south coast is lovely. my dad used to live there before he moved to germany and i thinkhis girlfriends sister still lives somewhere on the south coast.

Re: IB Lost
Awh wow, you sound very busy! Will your family keep your horse whilst you are away? Do you ever sometimes regret what you're doing? As in going to a boarding school so far away? I mean I've just recently met a really nice guy and now it just seems abit sad knowing that nothing can happen between us because I'm leaving...I mean I know that it's a great opportunity etc. but do you ever get those times where you just think about leaving all your friends and family and going into something 'blind' in a sense? After a whole, I talk reason with myself again, but it's those brief moments when I think did I do the right thing?!
P.s good luck for the test!Last edited by 24hoursmiles; 03-08-2012 at 00:29. -
Re: IB Lost
funny. i was just thinking the same thing. i do sort of regret my decision all the time, but i think i would have felt bad if i hadnt made this decision as well so i guess it's better that way. my family will take care of my horse when i'm in school, but i will miss her so bad it's already braking my heart. thank god for holidays. You know about the guy that you just met.I think if you want to you should go for it. you will regret it if you don't and as i said there's exeat weekends and holidays...and yes i get those times when i wonder if i'm doing the right thing and it's just killing me going into the unknown, but i also want to. wish i wouldn't have to leave so much behind. guess the few weeks before it actually starts( is still can't believe it's happening) are where you get cold feet

thanks btw. i passed

Re: IB Lost
Ah congratulations! Haha yeah and thanks for the advice, I figure I'd regret it and hey' all for living in the moment! To be honest, I've had this argument with myself a dozen times now, if I didn't choose to go I'd be spending all my time thinking what if? And what would of happened! So I know that I'm making the right choice! And will you get to go riding at your school like at a local stables or something? But still even if not, holidays will be great to see your horse!
-
Re: IB Lost
same here
it's just no matter what you do it feels right and wrong whatever you choose.
no i won't be riding at school. i think i could, but it would cost to much and i'm already diving into my parents wallets...my mum spent almost 500$ and around 300€ on my clothes. also riding another horse would feel like cheating in some way
i'm going nuts it's only 4 weeks... -
IB consists of 6 groups that are mandatory to take except Group 6 (Arts etc). My advice to you is know your subjects and pick them according to your interests especially your Higher Levels. Be open when taking a ToK class, don't think from only one perspective. For your Extended Essay and ToK presentation, I'd start preparing as this will take a load off your mind. I'm already done with my ToK presen. and I haven't even started my first year. To survive, do not procrastinate or else you'll have shi* loads to do; thus sleep late and wake up feeling excruciatingly tired. Have academic honesty, no collusion and cite everything!
Always be optimistic and positive or else IB will break your will. Be ambitious and make every minute count. Finish 150 hours of CAS in your first year and you'll be load-free during your second year
Hope I helped and if there are any further questions; please don't hesitate.

Re: IB Lost
same for me basically. i'm not sure about the name tags though. do you think it is required to have everything tagged? from tomorrow on i'll be on my own until like 3 days before i leave and i'm really not good at sewing and stuff. also i'm going to wash my stuff myself so they don't need to distinguish my stuff from other clothes. i would ask my granny for help, but she's sort of unable to sew anything at the moment since she accidentally sewed her left thumb few weeks ago. i know it's not funny but i still have to laugh

anyway how is the thing with the guy you met going? i know it's not really any of m business, but i'm so curious

Re: IB Lostthanks a lot. that really was a lot of information and help in just a few sentences. you should do that for a living(Original post by Mohamed Ramy)
