Oversleeping paranoia
So, I have two morning exams in the next few weeks and I keep getting up at around 10am. I keep trying to get myself up at 7:10am, but I just can't do it. I set around four alarms, and they all require me to physically get out of my bed to switch them off. But I just end up going back to bed for another "10 mins", then I wake up at 10am....
Before you say "have an early night", I've tried. But my parents insist on having the TV at a high volume most nights until around 1am. I've asked them to turn it down on several occasions but they just get mad and go on about how it's their house and if I don't like I can live somewhere else.
This is really putting me off my revision, as I'm sure if this keeps occurring my sleeping pattern will be ruined and I'll either oversleep or be so used to getting up at 10am I won't be able to concentrate.
Does anyone have any tips? It's really depressing and having to retake an entire year of sixth form because I can't get up on time is embarrassing. -
Re: Oversleeping paranoia
Your main problem seems to be getting back into bed 'for ten more minutes'. You need to stop doing this. Easier said than done, I know, but you're going to have to do it. Or maybe try setting your alarms at staggered times so you can go to back to bed for ten more minutes but then have another alarm to wake you up after this time.

Re: Oversleeping paranoiaI have ear plugs, but then I can't hear my alarm. Plus, they make me feel really uncomfortable. My parents have been getting me up... at 10am. They say they'll get me up, but they don't actually get up until around 10-11 most days.(Original post by tory88)
Buy some ear plugs and get an early night. Perhaps ask one of your parents to make sure you get up on the days of your exams if you need it? -
Re: Oversleeping paranoia
drink A LOT of water before bed then you will have to get up to go piss the other option which is funny
is ask someone to make sure your up. A guy I used to work with said make sure I am up for the breakfast shift so Instead of knocking on this door I popped the lock stole his bed sheets off his sleeping body and blasted an air horn three times (that works) -
Re: Oversleeping paranoia
Do you not have a friend you could stay with?
Have you tried leaving your curtains open? It is harder to go back to sleep when it is light.
Just don't get back into bed for 'another ten minutes', set your alarm clock late enough that there isn't time for 'another ten minutes'.
Hopefully knowing you have an exam will stop you getting back into bed. Don't take drugs or alcohol before you go to bed.
When I'm paranoid about oversleeping I can't sleep properly and wake up every ten minutes through the night, I can't believe someone would wake-up and get out of bed on an exam morning and still manage to oversleep. -
Re: Oversleeping paranoiaCould you stay with a close friend? Or perhaps get a friend to call your mobile and keep at it until you wake up and get up?(Original post by Onion man)

Re: Oversleeping paranoia
It's all about self control. I could quite happily go back to bed and sleep until 10 if I got the chance, but you just HAVE to get up. Put your alarm on the other side of the room, and force yourself to not even sit down when it's turned off. Go straight to the bathroom and splash some cold water on your face and then get going with your day :-).

Re: Oversleeping paranoia
Go to sleep on an empty-ish stomach. So eat early, around 6ish. Also, as someone has already suggested, drink lots of water before you go to sleep. Make sure that your alarm is across the room so that you have to get out of bed to turn it off. Put it in a really awkward place like in your cupboard, right at the back where it'll be a mission to reach but you'll still be able to hear it. And finally, just go to sleep early. And tell your parents that they're being inconsiderate.

Re: Oversleeping paranoiaGet some sleeping pills (Sleepeaze 25mg are really good, they're over-the-counter pills from Boots) and some Quies 35dB earplugs. It's all really cheap so you should be fine!(Original post by Onion man)
