What flower to get to say "thank you"?
So there's this lady (early 30s) who is an assistant finance manager in this university who helped me out (big time) with my tuition fee payment. I'd really like to thank her and the first thing that comes into my mind is getting her a flower as a sign of thanks. I reckon that we will meet often in the future when it comes to payment and stuff, so I don't want to give the wrong impression by getting her a flower which means something which I don't. I'm 20 by the way.
Okay I know I'm thinking too much. It's common of a finance staff to help a student out with money related stuff but I really feel indebted to her. I have no idea what are her likes (we only met once, and had a handful of phone conversations only). So what flower do you think I should get to mean "thank you"? -
Re: What flower to get to say "thank you"?Well giving *a flower* will probably send the wrong message. If you stroll into her office wearing a cape with a single rose between your teeth, it's going to seem a little dodgy. Get a *bouquet*, and then it doesn't really matter. Go to any local (super)market and there should be a decent selection. Throw in a "thank you" card for good measure to avoid any ambiguity, and try to keep your top buttons done up, you player!(Original post by johnconnor92)

Re: What flower to get to say "thank you"?
yes the above poster is right - one flower is a bit romantic for what you're trying to do!
a nice bunch of flowers will do, to be honest she probably won't mind what you get as it's the thought that counts. you'll probably be limited by budget so just go into a shop and buy something that looks nice for however much you want to spend. supermarkets will often be cheaper than florists. try not to get them from places like tesco as they don't look after their flowers very well and they can often look horrid and dead very quickly. M&S usually has some really nice ones, and if they're a bit expensive a smaller bunch won't hurt! -
Re: What flower to get to say "thank you"?Wow. Really? I've never had a girlfriend you know (I'm still a virgin). Though I do have plenty of close girl friends...(Original post by Junaid96)

Re: What flower to get to say "thank you"?
Jesus Christ.
When you say she helped with the payments, I am assuming you just mean she sorted it all out for you rather than actually helped you out of her own pocket. Isn't that just doing a job? If she did it well and was helpful, surely a 'thank you' is plenty? Would you give your lawyer a pound coin after a good bit of advice? No. -
Re: What flower to get to say "thank you"?Dude. Not many university staff would be kind enough to go through all the trouble and devise an instalment plan to ease my financial burden. Doesn't that warrant her a thank-you gift?(Original post by Jake22)

Re: What flower to get to say "thank you"?Fair enough, it is just that it seems a bit full on rocking up with flowers. She will probably think your after shagging her.(Original post by johnconnor92)

and so will she. One flower is romantic. A bunch of flowers from Sainsbury's or somewhere similar is fine

Re: What flower to get to say "thank you"?Why don't you just send her a nice bouquet with a card saying thank you? One flower is weird and getting a single flower is often thought if as a romantic gesture.(Original post by johnconnor92)

Re: What flower to get to say "thank you"?Okay.... Do I have it delivered or do I hand it in myself?(Original post by hippieglitter)

Re: What flower to get to say "thank you"?Deliver a bunch of flowers yourself. Maybe something yellow or pink. Definately not a single flower and I'd avoid roses too- although if it's a mixed bouquet then having a couple of roses in there probably wouldn't hurt.(Original post by johnconnor92)

If it was me, I'd be looking for something with sweet peas in there, though practically any spring/summer bunch from your local supermarket would suffice.
EDIT: I may have overthought this a little. -
Re: What flower to get to say "thank you"?Hmm... now I'm starting to have hesitations. I didn't expect my first time giving a flower to a lady would be like this.(Original post by marky--mark)

Aside from buying your old mum a bunch on Mother's day - flowers are the kind of thing you would buy a girlfriend on an anniversary (or alternatively, after she found out that you got pissed and snogged her best mate).
