I'm going to study economics and maths this September and was wondering whether you need to take your texts books with you?

you don't need to but most of my classmates did - sometimes you'll come across something and just want to recap something basic that you won't get in uni textbooks.

there's no harm in keeping them, is there?

You don't need to, but if you have them, there is no harm in taking them.

You will find in the university library introductory books in most subjects. Your lecturer may even suggest basic text books over and above the reccomended reading list. But if your happy how things are explained in your existing text books, it is easier to use them.
