Advice Please - MA in creative writing, living in Hampstead - Birkbeck/gold/kingston
Advice please! I'm going to be living in Hampstead and confused between choosing Golsmsith, Kingston, Birkbeck and Royal Holloway for studying MA in Creative Writing. I'm not able to make up my mind between the above mentioned. Can you please help me decide.

Traveling is not really a problem. If kingston is a great uni to study and better than rest of three I dont mind travelling thrice a week.

I love all the course descriptions of all the universities. and I love what kingston has to offer, but from what I read Birkbeck seems to be pretty reputed for the course. Also I have heard it's for working professionals ( which means everybody is busy and not a real uni experience.)

Kingston University - Hanif Khureshi teaches the course ( will not knwo till I land thr ;-))
Birkbeck - Reputed and also in Central London
RHUL - Central/reputed - but I dont like the course description ( may be they are so reputed they dont really care to explain it like how kingston does)
Goldsmith - Have no clue, but I read the alumni stories and I like what they say about the course and college ut bad location from what I read.

RHUL - All four Creative Writing MAs are taught in Bedford Square, in the heart of London’s Bloomsbury, in a building which is adjacent to the facilities of the University of London.

    please advice!

It's been a while since you posted and nobody's replied yet...maybe you should check out MarkedbyTeachers.com, TSR's sister site. It has the largest library of essays in the UK.

They've got over 181,000+ coursework, essays, homeworks etc.. all written by GCSE, A Level, University and IB students across all topics. You get access either by publishing some of your own work, or paying £4.99 for a month's access. Both ways give you unlimited access to all of the essays.

All their documents are submitted to Turnitin anti-plagiarism software, so it can't be misused, and the site's used by hundreds of thousands of UK teachers and students.

What's more, you can take a look around the site and preview the work absolutely free. Click here to find out more...

Hi there - Julia Bell here - I teach on the MA Creative Writing at Birkbeck . . . I was doing some research and come across your query...
Obviously, I think we are the best for ten good reasons:
    1. Big team of CW tutors.
    2. Lots of extra curricular stuff like Hubbub reading events and the Writers Hub website. In fact if you visit the Writers Hub you will find lots of podcasts and lectures from Birkbeck available for free.
    3. Successful alumni who go on to publish & teach. Google Emma Henderson, Liz Fremantle, Nii Parkes, Niki Aguirre, among others.
    4. We teach in the evenings so you can work during the day.
    5. One year FT & two years PT.
    6. We are very selective and get about 200 applications a year for 35 places. If you want to apply we select based on the quality of your portfolio - sex, age, educational experience are all secondary to this.
    7. Historic Central London location - the School of Arts is based in Gordon Square in a series of of Victorial terraces which used to be home to the Bloomsbury group.
    8. Ongoing links to projects with external arts organisations, the British Council, Arvon Foundation etc.
    9. Focus on developing the voice of the individual writer and on reading.
    10. Annual anthology The Mechanics' Institute Review which showcases some of the best writing from students on our courses (past and present).
