Re: GCSE AQA Geography A (Physical, Unit 1) (14th June)
I actually found the exam alright, probably cause I wasn't that worried or nervous because I'd already got full marks on the coursework and the Human Geography unit. The quarry question was really odd but I managed to get through it using the help of a map in the insert booklet which had the Peak District annotated. And the coastal habitat was definitely Keyhaven Marshes or Studland Bay, not arches and stumps as some have suggested. I was surprised by the lack of case studies and I told my teacher (who is a team leader of markers for AQA Geography) and she said they were an odd selection of questions. Oh well, grade boundaries are low, so should be okay.

Re: GCSE AQA Geography A (Physical, Unit 1) (14th June)It was aright - i did tourism globalisation and population(Original post by russkiy)
How did you find human paper?
This was posted from The Student Room's Android App on my HTC Desire S
What did you do?
I found the population 8 marker on chinas one child policy a bit weird. There was only a few points you can write down..
#strangeclouds -
I found it fine I did population , development gap and tourism. Found that 8 marker quite east but for the tourism 8 marker I talked about eco tourism instead of mass tourism :/(Original post by No brainer1)

Re: GCSE AQA Geography A (Physical, Unit 1) (14th June)That is not the grade boundaries so don't panic. I have the sheet in work. A grade C is 45/75 I know for a fact!(Original post by General nice guy)

Re: GCSE AQA Geography A (Physical, Unit 1) (14th June)that is a lie, because 1) the grade boundaries don't come out till just before results day, and 2) 45 is normally enough for a high A/low A*(Original post by GeoTeach80)

Higher
A* 135/150 (67.5/75)
A 120/150 (60/75)
B 105/150 (52.5/75)
C 90/150 (45/75)

They may lower them depending on results.AND as we saw yesterday that again their questioning was wishy-washy and one of the Q's was off specification! -

YIf you read below you will discover I was mistaken, sorry for the misunderstanding.(Original post by ExamTime17)
No that's the case study I did and I spoke to my teacher after the exam and she Said that keyhavan is perfect. -
Re: GCSE AQA Geography A (Physical, Unit 1) (14th June)With it being a case study question, any coastal habitat may be used as long as you include enough factual detail about the area. Some areas have very little published data about them. This is why some areas are more favourable for case studies as there is a large amount of data available to them.(Original post by smooshmeh)
I think you were ment to write about Stutland bay (if you did that case study on costal habitats) about how the plants had adapted to the enviroment.
Hope this clears up any queries of the case studies

Re: GCSE AQA Geography A (Physical, Unit 1) (14th June)AQA has never worked out UMS by doubling raw marks. An A* is always 135/150 UMS for each unit, or 360/400 UMS once all the units are added up (Physical, human and coursework). Last year, to get 135 UMS, you needed 49/75, and the before that, 46/75 was needed. The raw mark grade boundaries change every year.(Original post by GeoTeach80)

Re: GCSE AQA Geography A (Physical, Unit 1) (14th June)
it means that 49 is equivalent to 135 UMS...
I'm no teacher but i do know they follow a some sort of complicated graph to get a UMS score from your raw mark.
But whoever said you had to get 74 out of 75 or whatever for 135 UMS: just...no.
But no need to be bitter about geography, because ya'know- YOLO. -
Re: GCSE AQA Geography A (Physical, Unit 1) (14th June)That's absolutely ridiculous - historically the grade boundaries for both physical and human have been 46-58/75 for A*. And to think exam boards would just 'double it' each time without even considering the difficulty of the paper is ludicrous...(Original post by GeoTeach80)

Re: GCSE AQA Geography A (Physical, Unit 1) (14th June)
I was just wondering if anyone else didn't realise that there was a key for the OS maps in the insert? I only did Q1, 3 and 7 so didn't look at the middle of the insert. It was only when they were collecting the papers that I read the cover of the insert. It probably would have helped as well! D'oh!
